These reeds are without a doubt the best I’ve played. Great job on developing them, Jay Metcalfe.

My review, however, pertains to this particular seller: I ordered four boxes of these reeds. Of the four, three were of the wrong strength, and I had to return them. In addition, although saxophone reeds are somewhat delicate, they were packed so poorly that the boxes were partly crushed. I don’t know if the reeds themselves were damaged, since I didn’t play them (they were the wrong reeds, as noted).

I will continue to play these reeds, but will find other vendors to purchase them from.

Had several mis-cut reeds right ut of the box. Poor quality for a supposed to be premium reed.

Tenor reads. Really impressed. They have a quick, clean response, a solid core sound and great ‘vibe’. Good out of the box, but 2 out of 5 warped after a few soaking/drying cycles and won’t seal (I haven’t tried to re-flatten the backs, but my experience is you can only do so much, and these would need too much). I live and play in Colorado, where it’s very dry, so this is a problem with most reads. Other reeds I’ve had luck with on a Dukoff and TW Lakshmi: Gonzalez and Françios Louis. EDIT… (12/20/23) 2ND box, not so good. Almost like a different cut. Either the cane was a different “size” or the cut changed, but the vamp was more blunt shaped on all, and off-center on 2 out of 5 reeds, with the rails being uneven as well. Also, this box felt dull, without the core and pop of the first box.

They’re easy to and consistent to play, provide a nice, bright tone, and seem to last longer than other reeds I’ve used. They’ve made my practice sessions more enjoyable and my sound more professional.

I have for decades played the same setup with orange box Rico’s. Recently the consistency from the orange box was absolutely horrible, I’d be lucky to get 2 decent players that lasted for more then a gig out of a 10 pack.
I follow Jay on YouTube and figured I’d give these a shot.
The 2.5 better sax reeds play stiffer then the orange box by about 15% a number I just made up. However they were all players out of the box and after break in will last. Additionally they provided a depth of sound I’ve been missing for some time.
Just try them out and keep in mind they may run a touch on the hard side compared to the orange box.

I was hoping for a miracle, but no. Box of 5. Like others I found one really good and 2 so so but playable. One was so bad it would just choke. I ordered 2 1/2 but the reeds are stamped as #2. The box showed 3 and a label on the box in small print said 2 1/2

I tried the Better Sax reed on two different mouthpieces with no satisfaction.
