Comfytemp Red Light Therapy Pad For Pain Relief

I’m still a bit skeptical about whether red light or infrared light truly works, but I was curious to try it, so I decided to test this one, which combines both. I can say that the quality seems to be good, and it’s easy to use. It’s portable, so I don’t have to be stuck to an outlet, which is a huge plus. I also appreciate that the bottom surface can be wiped clean, which is important if you’re using it on bare skin. The attached control is convenient, as it eliminates the need to worry about where to place it. I haven’t tried the app, because I don’t really care about those features—I can control it just fine without it.

I am becoming a huge fan of Red Light Therapy products and recently bought a book that discusses the benefits of using red light. While studies are still out there, Red Light Therapy is supposed to help with inflammation and support healing. Nothing happens overnight and each person may have different experiences with Red Light Therapy. For me, it seems to help reduce inflammation, but like anything, you have to be consistent over a period of time.

I did find this to be a quality product in craftmanship and for the most part, product design. I like that the inside is made of a vegan leather that can be lightly wiped off. Even the rectangle sections of the Red Light areas have a piece of clear heavy plastic sewn over the lights for protection from skin oil and can be wiped off easily. The rectangle patches are targeted to fit around the neck, across the back and over the top of each shoulder. The only thing I do wish is that the sides would drape farther down the arm to offer additional Red Light coverage. It was for this reason that I deducted a star. Based on the price, had the coverage offered more Red Light Therapy down the side of the arms, I would have given this unit five stars.

Comes with the shoulder unit, charging cord and instruction booklet. Battery case is positioned on the front of the unit for easy access. If you have a smartphone, you can download the “Comfytemp” app so you can pair with your phone for Bluetooth capability. The unit will still work if you choose not to use the app. Overall, this is a very nice unit that comes in a sturdy flip top lid box that is padded on the top. Product made in China.

I’m not one to give in to gimmicky, pseudo-medical nonsense. I’m a skeptic at heart that values the scientific process and randomized controlled trials. That being said, I was ready to rip into this product and call it snake oil, but I can’t because I have tried it and can confirm that it definitely does something.

Here’s the thing, regular red light on the skin doesn’t do anything for a human being (as far as I know). We are not plants that photosynthesize, so any light from the visible spectrum (unless it’s hitting the retinas) isn’t going to do a whole lot. Some higher energy light may help with vitamin D production, but it’s not going to miraculously heal your aching muscles.

However, the near-infrared light emitted by this pad does seem to do something quite extraordinary. After a few minutes of wearing this pad around my neck, I began to feel an oddly warm and soothing feeling around my neck and shoulders. A couple minutes later and I was sweating in that area despite it being rather cool inside my home. I don’t know what that translates to in terms of pain and soreness relief, but it’s actually a nice feeling. If you’ve tried similar devices and enjoy that feeling, rest assured that this product actually works.

Personally, I will be sticking to my shiatsu-type massager for neck and shoulder pain, but I think I will start using this in place of a standard heating pad.
