Reeds are a very subjective matter, so take my review with a grain of salt; and try a box for yourself. They are nice reeds. The cost is about half of what I would normally expect to pay, and they worked for me. To really know how good they are I will have to play them for a long time, but right out of the box they performed as, to better than, expected.
My testing method was to pick two random samples, soak them, and play them without adjustment. I first warmed up a little with my normal 3H-4 reeds for a few minutes, then tried the new reeds. I mostly noodled around, testing the range, playing scales, trying low and high notes at different dynamics & with the slightly different embouchures I might use depending on the type of sound desired. I did not use every reed in the box. They immediately felt pretty good so I may as well use them as needed. If I feel differently later, I will add to my review. But, for now I’m happy with them, and will consider buying them.
Using the #2 reeds, I produced solid sounds and good control from low D to top F. My altissimo and notes below D were a bit more challenging and thinner sounding at first. I consider this normal, for me, because I am not used to playing very soft reeds. Their performance would be ideal for the beginner and probably OK for the player that prefers soft reeds. Again, I made no adjustments to the reeds.
For new reed players, you will eventually adjust almost all reeds to your liking with a little shaving here and there. Your beginning band/instrument teacher will usually start you out with softer reeds like a #2-2.5. 3 is still kind of soft, but in the range many experienced players like. Some experienced players like softer reeds too. Gato Barbieri liked a 1.5! It all depends on what feels good for you.
At this point, I would not hesitate to recommend trying them out. You might really like them. If I were to teach beginning band again, I would stock up. Only downside, I found it difficult to read the reed strength on the side of the box due to tiny print.
