ESEE – 4 Plain Edge Black Sheath Black Blades with Micarta Handle (ESEE-4P-B)
Very sharp out of the box, no defects found, knife weighs 7.7oz, nice sheath w/belt clip.
I have never paid any where close to $100 for a knife before, but I’m 66 years young and
will retire soon. My retirement will consist mostly of outdoor activity and a good knife will
be a tool that is used often in my coming adventures. I’m certain this knife will outlast me,
but I’m also certain my son will carry it for many years after I’m gone. I will be purchasing
one of this company’s 6″ version of this model in the near future, that should say a lot about
how happy I am with this product.

I like to keep a loaded knife sheath and hollow point sidearm at my bedside in case I wake up, it is turkey season, there is a turkey in my yard, I shoot it, and I need to skin and gut it before bbqing it. This knife came very sharp and I have carved a very beautiful kendo Sword with it that I later gave a friend. You can safely choke up on it and carve wood. I have not brought it into combat- but honestly my combat bayonet was only used for killing MREs open. I was thinking of finding some good aged oak or other hardwood and carving a handle. The handle is some kind of strong man made material with a finite grippy pattern. But I would like a larger rounder grip since my hands are bigger and stronger than D.T. or Kim Jung Un’s even if they have bigger buttons.

    TL;DR

Overall, I would recommend this knife to my bestest friend. Not the most ergonomic knife, not cheap, but great quality steel that you will not be able to break/chip even if you try.

After 4 months of heavy use in poor conditions I would say this knife was pretty good. I’m honestly impressed with how well the metal blade holds up. Sometimes you get bored and throw it at rocks- er, cut…stuff. Even after all of that I have never chipped the blade, but I have sharpened it a lot to maintain the edge. From when it was new, the blade has lost 1/8 inch in length and width due to it being sharpened so much. The first picture is, believe it or not, two identical knives. One is brand new and the other is…slightly used. I’ll let you pick which is which. But anyway I liked it so much I bought another one if that says anything. The only gripe I have with this knife is the handle. Good lord the handle….feels like I’m holding a Minecraft block. If you buy this knife, which I highly recommend, buy the version with a rounded handle. Your wallet with not be happy but your hand will thank you. Also, while the black coating won’t come off for anyone, any exposed steel will rust very easily as does high carbon steel. Just be prepared to service it often. The rust on it in the picture is from sitting in my dry backpack for a month. It’s just surface rust though. The sheath does have a drain hole at the bottom so water won’t pool on the blade while you’re wearing it on your belt.

Great knife, beefy and ready to take a beating. Feels great in the hand and comfortable to use. Came relatively sharp but it’s mild steel so easy to hone to a perfect edge. Overall I do recommend if you know what you are getting. It’s a good survival knife but it serves a specific purpose. There are better knives if you are going for a bushcraft knife. There are better knives if you are going for a hunting knife. But it’s a good one and quality is there. Warranty is great as well.

I bought this knife off of here in February of 2016. I’ve taken it on numerous camping trips, hikes, hunts, and everything in between. I would buy this thing over and over again. it really shines in the Bushcraft realm, being able to baton down small to medium sized logs with ease. The no-hassle lifetime guarantee simply cannot be beaten. I hope I never have to use it, but it’s there.

QualitΓ€t passt!

I can’t stop admiring this gorgeous knife. I’ve owned many different knives over the years (fixed and folders) but this one seems so well made and designed. It feels awesome in my hand and has great ergonomics. Sharp as hell, too.
I actually like the black finish. Some purists strip it off. I don’t see the point as I like it being non-reflective. I chose the serrated blade, too, as I think it makes it more versatile for multiple cutting tasks.
The sheath works great in the rear scout position with two small zip ties attached to my thick leather gun belt. Forget the clip attachment — it won’t sit horizontally and doesn’t sit tight on the belt. [Bonus: carrying concealed in the rear scout carry position prevents nervous Karens from freaking out.]

You can’t go wrong with the 4″ knife. While is it a bit small for some wilderness crafts, it is just the thing for work around the camp. It is a compact, heavy duty and durable knife which seems to hold a very sharp edge. The handle also has enough texture for good grip. I would suggest adding a lanyard to put your hand into in order to keep you hand from sliding down to the knife edge, since the knife holds a keen blade and can be very sharp. This is a quality knife which is very useful for most camp tasks. I’ve been looking for a perfect bush craft knife, but to be honest I’m coming to the conclusion that this knife fits that description! I like this knife enough that I will likely buy the 5. All around this is an excellent knife. If you are looking for something to use around camp for most chores go for it. If you are looking for a knife to use with lots of camp building, survival, etc. then probably the 5″ would work a bit better. Either way, Esee has made a believer out of me. Excellent knife.
