Fine Spanish Guitars Collection Description
This new, greatly expanded, revised and augmented edition of Shel Urlik’s original book, A COLLECTION OF FINE SPANISH GUITARS FROM TORRES TO THE PRESENT is a stunning contribution to the world of the classical and flamenco guitar. Cataloging well over 80 original and well preserved instruments which comprise the Urlik collection, it covers instruments from Antonio de Torres to present day makers of the Spanish guitar around the world. Each guitar has its own chapter with detailed descriptions, photos, history, bracing diagrams and measurements, including detailed thickness measurements of the tops, sides and backs, along with tables of measurements of the bridges and lists of materials used in each guitar’s construction. In addition the book now includes considerable new documentary and historical information including many never before published letters, photos, catalog pages and other important documents. The bracing schemes of each instrument are illustrated and the book includes 3 professionally recorded CD’s with 55 classical guitars played by Kenton Youngstrom and 21 flamenco guitars played by Richard Bruné. This second edition is a must have, with 214 pages, over a dozen new instrument additions, including the incomparable 1888 Torres of Francisco Tárrega, and additional guitars by makers such as Bouchet, Fleta, Hauser and so on. New photos, technical tables, and detailed information have been added which were not part of the 1st edition. The photos and print quality surpass the 1st edition, and the superb recording quality of the CD’s gives the listener a ringside seat to compare nearly 80 rare and important instruments. Deliveries outside the USA will be charged according to actual postage costs.

Anon reviewer –
A terrifically detailed and concise book for all those interested in the Spanish guitar, be it classical or flamenco. Great details, great pictures and many little tidbits that you may not have known previously. The only downside of this book, (apart from the price, which although high is well worth it once you get into it), is that the included three CDs are all labelled ‘Track 01’, ‘Track 02’ etc which means that if you want them to make sense then you have to re-title all 76 tracks. This needs to be sorted if ever there is a re-print. Having said that, the paper, binding, and illustrations are all top class. A wonderful book.
This review is unsolicited and from an owner of the book with no connection to the author, publisher or any other entity – in case you were wondering.

A Collection of fine Spanish Guitars From Torres to the Present https://www.amazon.com/Collection-Spanish-Guitars-Torres-Present/dp/0692467831/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 I am the author and I thank the reviewer of January 27, 20165 for his positive words. I think the reviewer wishes that the track listings in the folder holding the companion CDs referenced the relavent guitar’s chapter. Good news! The rightmost column of the listings gives the chapter number corresponding to the guitar being played. Moreover, the tracks are in the same order as their corresponding chapters (within the each genre, Classical or Flamenco) so one can listen while reading. I hope I interpreted your comment and that this is helpful. – Sheldon Urlik
