I purchased this Timing Belt and water pump combination in 2014 at 198K mi. I replaced it because of a water pump leak in 2018 at 255K. I don’t know if I can completely blame the pump, because I had a thermostat seize closed and overheat the engine right before the water pump failed, so I don’t know if that was responsible for a premature seal failure. Overall the water pump, tensioner, and timing belt were as easy to install as could be expected. The fit and function of the product appears to be high quality and fit perfect. If I have to replace it again at 311K mi, I will feel that I’ve gotten my money out of it. If that failure is due to the water pump, then I would definitely purchase the water pump separately.

Love the Gates products. (Point of info; the original belt off of Honda is a gates belt). Water pump was a perfect fit, good seal and good quality. This was a steal of a deal for the cost. I was in a Honda dealership and the guy next to me just paid $522.00 and waited four hours for just the timing belt replacement (no water pump). Make sure you get the special socket to remove the harmonic balance. You can borrow that tool from Pep Boys or you can just buy one for $35.00. Also check out a few You Tube vids for guidance, there’s some good info on there. One other little tune-up tip: Original spark plugs from Honda are $99.00 for a 4 cylinder. Using a online discount code, I paid $24.00 at Advanced Auto for the exact same NGK Titanium plugs.

Included instructions and a warning sheet to make sure you dont turn the engine clockwise.
WARNING!!! The water pump has 4 bolts..one is shorter than the rest. This bolt must go in the bottom left of the pump. I didnt know that and began tightening the bolt down thinking it was the right one…and SNAP!..It is still broken off in the head… I used extra black RTV gasket maker and went around the entire pump. With the tension of the water pump being applied towards this bolt instead of away (which would pull the pump away from the head) I have had no leaks. I didnt have a right angle drill to drill it out and it was a steel bolt inside an aluminium head…good luck with that. So once again BE CAREFUL! Hand tighten every bolt and make sure it screws in all the way before putting a wrench on it. You dont want to make this mistake.
Otherwise the tensioner had a ngk bearing in it along with the original one/one that was in there prior so i felt as if the kit was made of good quality parts. Other than breaking the bolt, this kit is a great one!

Got this for my 01 civic lx to replace during a head gasket replacement. The price was great compared to some of the others on here. The entire process of installing it is fairly straight forward for the mechanically inclined.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A 50mm CRANK SHAFT SOCKET!!!! You’ll save yourself a giant pain in the ass with one of these.
The product appears to be well made and came with everything I needed to change the old one out just to be safe. The old one wasn’t broken or worn but I figured why not install a new one while I’ve got half the engine torn apart.
If you need a timing belt for half the price of the rest then grab this one.
