Vendor was able to ship and delivery was ahead of schedule, Yay!

The items were carefully packaged and arrived in mint condition. Installation was simple and expedient, similar to installing an OEM sealed beam.

Performance, here is the difference! A much longer field of light on the roadway. Using the 55/60 watt lamps that were included, the difference was a pleasant welcome from the original H6054’s. Low beam is much nicer in overall vision on a dark, unlit roadway. A small splash of light to the side does cause a deer’s eyes to glow and alert a driver to their presence for safety, nice feature. High beam is awesome as it lights a much longer distance that the originals were not able to illuminate.
At the wattages of the supplied H4 lamps, OEM wiring has the ampacity to cover the needs. High wattage lamps will require an aftermarket harness and relay arrangement since the current required is more than double the OEM and 55/60 watt consumption.

MUST ADJUST HEADLIGHTS AFTER INSTALLATION!!! PROPERLY>>>

Appearance is very nice. Construction is all glass, no plastic crap, real, bona fide g l a s s! Genuine quality.

I installed these on my 1993 Jeep Cherokee. I was running Sylvania XtraVision sealed beam headlights before, then upgraded to a headlight harness with relays that I built using 12 gauge wire which made a big difference.

The next step was upgrading to these Hella H4 E-Code headlights which are amazing. Make sure you use a low profile 90 degree connector if you are building your own harness. These fit a little deeper (~1/4″) than sealed beams in the headlight housing brackets which works fine with the factory harness or a low profile 90 degree connector.

The light cut off is really nice. Make sure you have them properly aimed, see Daniel Stern’s website for more info. Driving in the fog and snow is where the E-codes make a big difference because they do not cause glare up at eye level like the DOT headlight pattern can. The sealed beam headlight pattern looked like two flashlights taped to the hood, and the Hellas have a much broader illumination pattern. Much easier on the eyes for night driving.

These are an excellent upgrade to the standard sealed lights in my ’98 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Direct replacement, no hardware needs changed. In my instance I needed new lights as the original OEM ones has lost a great deal of lumen output over time. These were an easy choice, albeit more expensive then a sealed set of replacements. The ECE cutoff pattern for the lights is excellent and properly oriented for a LHD US specification car, they have a right hand up-kick to illuminate the right side of the road. The included bulbs are fine and should last a long time compared to higher output bulbs with a shorter life. These are not DOT approved light housings (003427291 Vision Plus), which are available as well if you are concerned with adhering to DOT specifications. Some states allow ECE lights, others do not. The light patterns are different, some report that the DOT version does not focus the light on the road as well as the ECE version. You can find excellent write-ups on the internet.

Here are the Hella part numbers for the ECE and DOT versions. Note, the ECE ones can also be bought in a kit with two housings. This listing is for ONE housing, you will need to order two.

7″x6″ Rectangular Conversion Headlamp Kit, High/Low Beam (ECE) 003427811
    7″x6″ Rectangular Conversion Headlamp, High/Low Beam (SAE/DOT) 003427291

There is a great deal of confusion about LHD and RHD versions, the ones I received were correct for LHD cars. The LHD version have the “triangle pattern” on the right hand side of the lens (when looking at the front of the car, please see the attached photo). The optics of the housing reverse the pattern to kick up the light on the right hand side of the projection (when sitting in the car facing forward). NOTE: This is OPPOSITE of the amazon image. The amazon image is of a UK/JPN version.

Replaced original sealed.bean headlights with these on an RX7 convertible. Easily increases down the road visibility by 50% with standard halogen bulbs that come with these headlights.

Install good LED’s instead of the halogen bulbs and brightness and night visibility is amazing.

I have used Bells lamps in other classic cars and have had similar results.

    Update:
Have only driven this car 20 miles since installing lights. Last night I noticed that the inside of the lenses and mirror reflector are lightly fogged or have a light film inside on lenses and reflection mirror. This issue cannot be due to anything I have done with installation or handling. (The dust shields are properly installed on the back of the lamps and the car is kept in a garage).

I had written a much longer and more detailed review that did not meet community guidelines

Be very sure that you want the headlamp as is shown in my picture, a headlamp designed for the UK or Australia, not for use in North America.

Fits: 1985 Toyota Pickup. These lights a really great! Sealed beams on my truck are a pain to replace so as long as these last, it will be nice to never have to do that again! The halogens do give a little more light than the sealed beams, and replacing the h4 bulb is dreamishly easy. I can put 100w/55w bulbs in these for offroading so I will have legal low beams and extra oomph high beams, and just swap out the bulbs to 55w/60w for completely street legal use. Although since they are not DOT approved they are technically legal anyways, which is a risk. That being said, I admit to running the 100w/55w bulbs all the time, and I am extra vigilant to not blind people. I usually drive with my low beams on, especially around corners.

The low beams: The low beam pattern is beautiful! Much better than the sealed beams ever were. All the light is diffused widely so that the side of the road is actually lit up as well as in front of you, and the beams have a very defined cutoff line…. sort of. My one complaint about these lights is that each bulb refracts a little bit of light upwards and to the right on low beam. (I assume for illuminating road signs) While this should be a nice feature, Hella’s execution of this feels somewhat poor. If I shine the beams on a wall, there is a very defined cut-off line with two triangles sticking up, which means that if I adjust the low beams where I want them I will from time to time shine them in somebody’s eyes. For this, I would reduce one half star from my rating, but I must round up to 5 since my overall experience is very good.

The high beams: The high beam pattern is like to driving lights going strait down the road with a very large diffused bit above that. This is great for off-roading since my fog lights illuminate up close, and it’s very nice to be able to see whats above me a little. Having a 100w beam for off-roading is quite nice, and I would have a hard time ever going back! Be carefull if you do put a higher output bulb because you don’t want to burn anything up. My factory wiring was just fine, but I had replaced the headlight relay with aftermarket that wasn’t big enough and it burnt out after a few hours of use. That can be a very dangerous situation, so I strongly recommend doing some checking before you just over-amp your system.

I wish I could compare these to other headlamp kits, but hopefully this will help you make an informed decision about these ones. I would still rather have these than others that I saw, but that may be just brand loyalty talking. Either way, these look the same as stock and are still made of glass which is a must for me. If your looking at upgrading your sealed beams, just do it if you can afford it! You won’t regret it.
