I have changed the rating from 3 to 5 stars as that is deserving of this instrument. Mine came from Amazon through a 3rd party vendor. Ibanez released this one with what looks like two router digs and a burn. NOT a natural wood defect/characteristic. This bass should have been a blemish (B-stock). Amazon was willing to refund only , but I would have paid shipping on something not my fault. The vendor was gracious and sent me a shipping label to send it to them without paying shipping for a refund only (no replacement policy). Much appreciated. It took 4 days for the vender to receive the bass. It may now take up to another 2 weeks for Amazon to return the money to the account per policy/procedure and maybe a bit longer to post. All that being said, I am going to purchase this same bass once the money is refunded (from an online music store). This is the nicest bass I have ever played. Neck/fretboard is smooth and fast. Beautiful bass if you like this style. Looks very professional and detailed. Great hardware, nothing to change out. And the sound?…DANG! I am now a Nordstrand fan. I have been able to get any sound for any style (genre) of music I desire. It can do funk, country, metal, blues, rock and so on and do them all justice. Full, deep and round to punchy and aggressive. These are single coils and can produce noise under the right situation. Same as has always been with singles. No better, no worse. I have seen reviews that say it is lightweight. No idea what they are talking about. I am older and this one is really tough on the shoulder. Near twice the weight of my other bass. Still well worth it though. The fretboard on the Ibanez video looks beautiful. Most of the ones I have seen pictured or on YouTube are not even similar (including the one I rec’d). Just straight grain. Nice, but nothing out of the norm. I am looking forward to owning one in GOOD SHAPE. What an awesome sounding bass! This experience with Amazon would warrant at best 1 star. The guitar is a 5 star.

This is one of the top of the line basses by Ibanez. When it came it had some serious manufacturing issues. I bought it in January and ended up sending back to Hoshino for repair. Hoshino decided it would be best to replace this bass with a new one, which I finally got the last week of May. Hooray for Hoshino to do the right thing. My only question is whether this model is 2-3 times better than the less expensive models available by Ibanez. Even their “lower” end basses play very well and have basically the same construction and similar quality ( to my eye) as the premium line. Having said all that I am still happy with the result and will find out over time if I made a wise choice.
