I have owned this product for about 5 weeks. Like some other reviewers of this product elsewhere, at first my dog would not use this pad. It is hard and he preferred his old cushion even when I removed the cushion from the doghouse and left it outside. However with some time and encouragement he has now accepted the heated pad. He likes to lie with his backside on the heated pad and his front on his old cushion. This works well as he has an injured hip and the heat is very soothing. I have noticed a distinct improvement in that he no longer limps.

Love this item. I use it in an enclosed dog kennel to keep my 3 barn cats warm. I covered it with straw, and they LOVE it!! Will be great for outdoor feral cat houses also!

This is the cornerstone of the cat shelter I built for my cat. The shelter is insulated, and designed to be draft-proof. It is a good size for one cat, not too big, not too small. In principle, it should be large enough for comfort, but small enough to build up heat quickly and retain it. The pad helps kitty achieve his heating requirements. He seems very well rested and cozy when he comes out of his shelter to eat or play.

Our JRT who absolutely refuses to be an indoor dog – lest she misses something has a 20 x 30 enclosure with 3 different dog houses she can use depending on the weather to keep her comfortable. She grows a super thick coat, and honestly as much as we pack the small house she doesn’t require additional heat. We have very, very mild winters here.
BUT we like to give her options, so we installed this heater in the large sized IGLOO she has that we also bed down with some red cedar (for fleas, and such), and wheat straw.** The cedar, and straw does not effect the heating pad. We’re guessing not enough weight to warm up the pad.
She does not use the pad often, but she does thoroughly enjoy it at times, so we are completely happy she has that **additional support as needed!
And yes, she is probably the most spoiled little 18 pound hunting dog you have ever seen! Lol! BUT who cares! We love her dearly, and want her to always be comfortable even if she does demand being outside so she can keep an eye on all the animals in the barnyard! She is after all The Boss! Hahaha!
As for the pad itself – it works great! **We did drill an 3 and a quarter hole through the dog house so we could run the cord out. Which was more than enough. **We also pushed the house right up to the fence because she chews up EVERYTHING we put in the kennel, & she is not supervised 24 hrs a day. **We strongly suggest you do the same if you can! Although the cord is wrapped in wire (spiral fashion like a pulled out slinky only smaller) it’s still chewable by a determined pet. Especially bored, hyper, hunting, mischievous, or hard headed dogs. Our Lucy just loves to play with all toy’s, and can’t really discriminate between “chewy” toys, and rubbery fun cords! To her everything in the kennel is hers!
Anywho back on track!** We love the pad, and absolutely DO recommend this pet warming pad!
**Just like curling up with litter mates – it works on emanating heat that only warms from pressure, so electricity is saved when pet does not use. **Works just like the bird warmers we use for our parrots! 😉
***Oh and as a precaution – your pet Must have a way to get off of, and move away from the heater when they need to- to maybe cool down a bit, or take care of their needs.
Hope our review is helpful!

This was a perfect bed for my dog that loved to be outside in the cold. It does not overheat and only heats up when there is pressure applied so it does not stay on for days and days. I tested it on my hand before I used it on my pup just to make sure, and it’s just as advertised.

Purchased/donated to someone who helps/rescues feral/abondoned residential neighbourhood cats. recommended by a kind woman who builds the wooden cat shelters for free labor/donated wood for our cold winters to help abandoned and feral cats and cat rescue societies and businesses who take care of no-owner cats.

I purchased this heating pad for our neighborhood cat that we started feeding and caring for. We had a cat house built and put the pad inside. The pad is VERY hard, and then it has a thin cover over the top of it. Even though it is hard, my cat seems to enjoy it. The pad does not seem to get hot….just warm. I tried to cover it with another thin blanket to make it a little more comfortable, however, it didn’t seem to provide much heat through the blanket. The heating pad did it’s job and the cat made it through winter. I will leave the heating pad in there year round to provide warmth on the cool nights.

We use this in our potbellied pig’s outdoor house/shelter. Our last mat lasted nearly five years before we noticed the plastic developed a crack (heating element was still working, but we were nervous about water getting into the mat and shorting out). We think this is beyond reasonable, considering it was used daily by a pig weighing nearly 170 pounds! We replaced with the exact same product and have peace of mind knowing our pig is warm and happy. Highly recommend!

I bought two of the large pads for my dogs over a year ago (Oct 2010) and so far so good. I built two insulated dog houses from scratch and placed a pad in each one. They are protected from the weather and are not left out exposed to the sun. I think keeping these protected from the weather and sun will go a long way to making these pads last longer.
They work great and keep my dogs nice and toasty. The instructions will tell you that they warm up slowly, so don’t expect them to heat up to operating temperature right away. It’s not a problem if the dog is wet since these pads are made of a tough plastic. I have tried thick plush pads before but the dogs only end up tearing them apart having fun doing so, they don’t even try or can’t chew on these since they are thin and lay flat on the floor. My dog houses have a flap door which helps seal in the heat, even when the temperature has dropped below 0, the dogs are still kept warm.
I have not experienced the problems reported in other reviews and expect to get a few more years out of these. I will update this review if that changes.
My only complaint is that elastic bands on the fleece covers that hold them in place on the pad, broke after a short while. I manually adjust the covers at night. I just ordered two new ones since the old ones are rather dirty now and I’m not going to bother to wash them. This is the reason why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5.
Update: These pads began to fall apart after about 5 years, not bad but was hoping for longer life.

I have a dog who refuses to come in during the winter months and to keep her warm we have purchased this product. We had one previously that quit working before the end of the 2nd winter so hope this one lasts longer.
