I enjoy playing my inexpensive Yamaha more than my other guitars, and I decided to change the strings with something different. These strings play as well as the other Martin’s I used to buy but have a better rounded tone. I’ve tried D’addario’s before, and they were just too bright for me.
These strings just feel and sound better to me. The sound is rounded without sounding too bright or dull. Also, they stretch and hold tune better for me.

I have no objections to these strings. They have been on my guitar for almost three weeks and the sound seems to me to be the same as the original strings. They voice clear and mellow with a twang and with bold sustain that is rich and bright. I like them. The strings need little retuning at each play. Maybe that is also due to the tuning keys on the guitar.

I hadn’t tried these before, but I needed strings for my school guitar (I’m an elementary music teacher), and these were listed at a good price. I took a chance. When I first put them on, I noticed that they weren’t as bright and crisp as the GHS strings I had been using. Not bad, just a little on the mellow side. Well, I used these strings all through concert season, and they have been great! The tone, while initially mellow, has stayed pretty consistent through these months, and I play that guitar a lot (probably 3-4 hours a day all together, every school day). I have beat the stuffing out of these strings, and they still sound alright. Since they were kinda mellow to start with, they haven’t suffered that “dead” sound that brighter strings get after awhile (as much, anyway). If you need ultra bright, snappy strings, these aren’t for you, but if you like consistent, smooth, easy-playing strings, I’d give these a try. They stay in tune really well, too!

I experiment with strings and have mostly been using the coated type which is what came standard on my Taylor and Rainsong guitars. I put these Eric Clapton signature strings on my Rainsong and was immediately impressed with the change in feel at both fret and pick hands. My best comparison would be chalking a pool cue so it doesn’t slip on the ball. They were also louder and more responsive but some of that was the difference between old and new strings. Another major change (improvement) is the response at the pick which is immediate and almost gives a contact squeak of its own similar to sliding the fret hand fingers over the strings. I got used to this quickly and it forced me to play with more precision in the process. I have bought more of these strings and may make them my standard for a while. I think every guitar player should know how to change his or her own strings and do so often to increase playing satisfaction. The cost is small compared to any hobby I know.

I had been playing a Recording King Dirty 37 Series with the stock D’Adarrio strings on it for over 1.5 years. It is a very warm sounding parlor sized guitar, inexpensive but well made, easy playing and pleasing tone. Eventually the high E broke and it was time for new strings. I am not a fan of D’Adarrio, so I decided to give the Martin Eric Clapton strings a try. I was honestly surprised at the tonal difference/improvement. A musician relative of mine had done several informal acoustic jams with me but when he first heard it with the Martin EC’s he assumed it was a new guitar and I received many compliments on its rich new voice. I truly seems that different guitars may have certain strings that just fit better. When the time comes I will try a set on my Epiphone Masterbilt Deluxe archtop. Highly recommended.

After playing guitar since the mid ’70’s and testing dozens of different brands and gauges for acoustic strings, about five or ten years ago I discovered these strings and have never bought another brand since. No string has ever made my 1990 Martin HD-28 sound better. The instrument obviously starts out with some amazing built-in bona fides (it would be hard for it to sound BAD); however these strings bring out the immense frequency range and tonal color of the instrument. A bonus: they last forever! I play the instrument at least once weekly leading worship, and the strings I installed in July 2020 are just now (January 26, 2021) starting to loose their brilliance. Highly recommended!
