Lorand Andahazy –
As a beginner at classical guitar, I really like practicing the music my teacher assigns from this book. They offer incremental challenges leading to more skillful playing at the same time as making me happy being able to make such pleasing music. The pieces come from many composers who’ve made important contributions to the musical literature. So even as these are relatively simple and easy to learn, I feel I’m being immersed gently into the serious traditions and vast realm of the classical guitar. This book is a musical treasure.
Mary –
I am a beginner at classical guitar, but I’ve been playing piano for many years so reading notes is no problem (this book does not include tabs). I was looking to avoid the begginer repertoire like row row your boat, go tell aunt rody, twinkle little star and other hair-wreching kids songs. I was very impressed by these song! Well written by famous string composers, and yet approachable to a begginer classical guitar student. If you are a begginer, I recommend getting Duncan’s method book as well which starts at ground level. I have the method book as well, and this book is a great addition to it.
John S. –
Not bad for something to practice.
SamSam –
There are some nice pieces in the book – but I have had 6 months of lessons and I certainly didn’t find them easy … so not a beginners book. If you have a bit more experience then you will love it.
Kristopher M Thornton –
I like it. The pieces are progressively more difficult and it seems as though the selected pieces also work finger movements that may be unfamiliar for that particular skill level.
Mr. Nicky D. Stevenson –
Nice book.
Foxfire –
It is great and will be able to lay this soon, thanks to the Modern Approach training books. It also makes a nice change from just practicing scales
Patrick M. –
I have been playing classical guitar for a lot of years and have taught it as well for quite a while. This book if fun for me just to sit down and play, but it is especially great for students. The arrangements sound full and beautiful and are really playable. Wish they had books like this one available when I was a young student.
Cap’n B –
I have played pieces from the “Part Two” of this series and thought I would buy “Part One” to use as sight-reading material. I have really enjoyed the pieces in this book! Be warned that it does take some classical guitar technique and note-reading fluency to play any of these compositions, as other reviewers have said. That being said, the first half of the book is pretty easy (great for sight-reading practice or building up your skills), while the second half has some real gems. Most of the book consists of pieces by major guitar composers and you may have them elsewhere in your collection. There are a couple of nice pieces by Johann Logy (“Aria” and “Capriccio”) and a “Waltz” by Anton Diabelli that I really enjoy. All of these pieces are easier than the selections in the “Part Two” book. Have a wonderful time playing!
Landon R. Woodruff –
The book shipped quickly but the cover came in quite scratched up I was not super impressed with this otherwise I would have given it a 5 star rating.
Jorge Bennett, composer. –
I have been using this book for nearly a decade to teach my students some relatively easy original classical guitar pieces. My students love the pieces and they are so much better than guitar exercises, in the sense that they are real music composed by known composers, so they can start building their own repertoire. The pieces grow a bit more complex and difficult as you advance through the book, which is also exciting.
The Reviewer –
its a beginners book, no songs are too interesting
