Sanus Recessed TV Wall Mount VIWLF128-B2

If you have a new gigantic television – 75″ or more – this wall mount may be the best you can find. It will work for smaller TV’s as well, down to 42″, but it’s a little pricy for a smaller TV. For a larger television it is amazing. I’m replacing a 46″ TV mounted over the fireplace with a 75″ screen that doesn’t fit!

The other mounting kits I looked at for a TV this large all had drawbacks. They didn’t have sufficient motion to allow me to mount this where I need it. They protruded much further from the wall than was preferred. The ones that had sufficient motion weren’t rigiid enough to keep the TV still, straight, and in position.

The SANUS Recessed TV Wall Mount for 42″-85″ Screens solves all these problems. Installation is a little different, as its designed to be recessed in the wall. Other mounts require lag bolts screwed through studs, and I didn’t find the installation requirements to be too onerous, as it’s easy to repair the drywall if I ever take the mount down.

The mount has full motion. It tilts, swivels, and extends, so I can mount it away from the fireplace and still view it from the center of the room. More importantly, it’s solid. You can use the entire range of motion and the television is still stable. The unique design means that you can mount your TV just a half inch from the wall, and you can bring your power and signal cables up from behind through the mount. None of the other mounts I found could mount the television that close, and nobody needs a 75″ TV hanging in their way.

The price is higher than other mounts, but when you see it you’ll understand why. It’s so strong and robust, and you can trust it to mount your expensive television, and extend it with the range of motion it provides. It’s hard to emphasize how solid it is.

I wanted a completely custom look to my new tv install. This mount is not like any of the 3 or 4 styles of mounts that are on the market. This mount intends for you to put the metal into the wall. I was skeptical at first, but once I realized that I was going to be putting holes into my wall to run the cables anyway, I decided to go for it. It holds <80" tvs with ease, and hides all but the last bit of mount into the wall. The power and network run through the bottom of the box and so everything looks neat and tidy. I recommend this product.

First I will say that this thing feels well made. It is very heavy and sturdy. Unfortunately there are two issues that could be improved on.

First, depending on where your TV’s mounting holes are, the television will sit higher or lower relative to the recessed box. This is a problem if you want it mounted at a specific position above your mantel, counter, etc., although if you don’t care about that then this is a moot point. Our TV is going above a counter in the kitchen/dining room and we need the bottom of the TV at a specific height above the counter. Sanus (Legrand) has a page on their website that is supposed to do the calculations for you, but it doesn’t work . . . that is it doesn’t give you any answer (as opposed to a wrong answer). We tried repeatedly, on 3 different browsers, not working on any.

The second issue, which we are VERY glad to have figured out before cutting a hole in our wall(!) is that the holes in the steel articulating arm do not line up with the holes in the recessed mounting plate – see photo. These holes need to line up so that you can insert the included screws to assure the TV does not fall out of the recessed plate and onto your floor. It appears they may know about this as the hole at the bottom (left in photo) has been enlarged to accommodate that screw. Unfortunately, they didn’t also enlarge the upper hole and you can not get that screw in to the recessed plate. Maybe one screw would be sufficient but when TVs cost well over $1000 why would you take the risk, especially when Sanus (Legrand) thought it appropriate to have two screws to hold this to the wall.

I called their company (which they encourage you to do) and spoke to a nice person. I sent the attached photo and she confirmed it was not right. She promised the higher ups would contact me in 1-2 days about replacement, or other resolution, but the 48 hour window has come and gone and nothing from them. So, sending it back through Amazon (an excellent experience) and will order another one and hope for better alignment . . . . . .

Happy to say that the replacement had holes that lined up perfectly! We have installed it, hung the TV, and are very satisfied with the product. It is a heavy, solidly made, piece of equipment and they provide all the different screw and washer options that you may need for your particular television (although you should probably confirm that your TV and this mounting system are compatible). BTW, we never did hear back from the company, but Amazon handled the return and replacement efficiently and without question.
