I was gifted an old computer without a hard drive, but had a Windows Vista license. I bought this disk so I could install Vista on the computer. It worked perfectly. I simply booted it up with the disk in the CD ROM drive, and it immediately brought up the menu to install Vista on the computer without any difficulty.

Overall, the product works as advertised. I had some challenges because this was the first time ever trying to do something like this: i.e., restore a previously existing operating system. First difficulty: the attached pic shows 4 lines of options. The HP BIOS wanted me to select the CD-ROM Group line first. Then the BIOS selected the HL-Dt-ST DVD-RAM GH10L option which I confirmed. I learned after 3 tries that my I pick of the HL-Dt-ST DVD-RAM GH10L would not cut it.
Once past that, all went reasonably well. The next challenge was that my HP was delivered with 64 bit operating system. My several attempts using the x64 option failed. Reason still not known. I then tried the x86 option and viola the OS installed as expected, albeit as 32-bit.
I went through this process, to backup to Windows Vista from WIndows 10 in order to play older games. They crash due to insufficient memory issues. I suspect I have an unidentified hardware issue.
Tech support was great. I lost the instructions included with the disk, but they sent me an email within 2 days of my request.

The repair disc does not load files to boot from DVD.
A waste of money an time not the first time I was disappointed

I typed the product ID correctly and tried on multiple computers. It will not work on a Vista Home Basic version.

This legit worked like a charm!! My 2008 computer was locked up and I couldn’t do a full system reboot bc it was also password protected so with this and a little bit of google for extra instructions I got into my computer!!!!!! The instructions that came with it weren’t enough to do what I needed to do unfortunately
