I liked the general idea of the ease of using a retractable baby gate. Reality though, is that it broke within 3 months of use. The part that broke was the plastic part that attaches to the wall.

While it was working, I didn’t like that you have to lock and unlock it every time you open/close it. It requires use of both hands – the lock is on one side and the part you open is on the other side. If you have a wide doorway, and a baby in your arms, this is nearly impossible. Also you have to be very careful allowing it to retract because it pulls it fast and will become unevenly wound in the spool. It pulls so fast that it could hurt a child if you accidentally let go. I would not buy a product like this again.

We use it in a large open space to keep pets and children out when needed, and when I don’t need the barrier, I can retract the gate with ease and it doesn’t impact aesthetics. It was easy to install as well! The only downside is I don’t think it’s as sturdy as the stock photos make it out to be; since we use it in a wider space it tends to droop in the middle even though it’s locked in place with the most tension. It works well in not so wide openings 🙂.

Retracts back very uneven. Have to do it very slowly and very straight or it will crinkle and leaves fold line marks and won’t retract the whole way. Not for permanent use.
