Today I was adding some new drives to my Western digital registration site and found out that this drive isn’t eligible for a warranty directly through WD, here is the message I got.
“Thank you for registering your product(s), 0 product(s) were registered out of 1. The following asset(s) failed to register: because it’s either an OEM product or the warranty has been voided. For further assistance, please contact the WD support team “
Product sold by Tech on Tech was new in sealed anti static bag, with zero power on prior to me plugging it in as per the SMART drive stats.
Drive was manufactured in April 2018. It passed initial quick test in my synology nas. It passed extended test with zero issues in my synology nas. It took just under 20 hours to run a full extended test.
Drive formatted to 9.09TB of usable space which was expected.
The drive is now in use recording 3 cameras at 1280×720 or higher resolution. I anticipate this drive to hold up to 90 days of 24×7 recording with the current setup.
I will report back if there any manufacturer related issues.

Purchase 4 10tb and install into ds418. After 4 days one hdd died. Lucky for the hybrid raid feature in the NAS, and not loosing the data.
Brent K –
2 of these were installed in a RAID 1 for a NVR. No issues so far.
