Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO CPU Cooler Description
- 【Brand Overview】Thermalright is a Taiwanese brand with more than 20 years of development history. It has a certain popularity in the domestic and international markets and has a decisive influence in the cooler market. We have been focusing on the research and development of computer accessories. The R&D product line includes: CPU coolers, case fans, silicone pad, thermal paste, mounting brackets, accessories and other products.
- 【Overall refinement】The cpu radiator adopts anodic black frosted process, the twin towers of the radiator body present a frosted texture, with 7 fully plated and blackened heatpipes, as well as a precision micro-engraved reflow soldered copper base, which greatly enhances the overall performance of the radiator; avoiding the treatment of the graphics card allows for greater compatibility of the cpu cooler.
- 【AGHP technique】7x6mm heatpipe with AGHP upgraded 4th generation technology, the Inverse gravity effect caused by vertical / horizontal orientation. Up to 20000 hours of industrial service life, S-FDB bearings ensure long service life of air-cooler radiators.UL class a safety insulation low-grade, industrial strength PBT + PC material to create high-quality products for you.

I needed a new air cooler for my i7 13700. I had the noctua nh-u12a and while it did a good job cooling the cpu, it was showing its age. Under load in heavy intensive graphics games, and especially during the summer, the nh-u12a struggles a bit.
After installing TR phantom spirit 120 evo, I noticed a big improvement immediately. Idle temps are good and under load while gaming. Didn’t really hear the fans noise as the gaming sounds drowned it out. It’s fairly quiet, not noticeable.
For price, performance, and value, nothing currently beats the TR phantom spirit 120 evo. Hands down best cpu air cooler in 2024. Although noctua released the new nh-15 g2 this year, its cooling is definitely better but it’s way too expensive as is most noctua products.

The air cooler and TL-B12 fans are so cheap you figure you’d find something not to like but I haven’t so far. The fans are quiet and smooth and move a lot of air. The cooler works just as well as my Noctua coolers and looks good tool. Nothing here feels cheap at all. A really good deal.

Big and beefy, easy to install, and mounting was a breeze. From gaming at max settings (w/4080 Super) to running Cycles animation renders in Blender (21 hrs nonstop at the longest so far), this CPU cooler keeps my 7900X3D running niiiiice and chilly. Average idle is around 46-50c for me, and this is during the summer months where my house gets to around 75-80F on the hottest days. Come winter and average 60-ish F temps, I’m imagining it will run even cooler.
Installed this within a Corsair 4000x case with a glass front panel. Note that if you have this specific case, the radiators and fans for this cooler are going to be SUPER close to touching the side glass, but there is just enough clearance for it to fit snugly.
Second thing is RAM height- I had to move the frontmost fan over juuuuust a bit so that it doesn’t touch the G.Skill Trident RAM I have installed. Still functions perfectly, but do keep that in mind if you don’t have low-profile RAM.

had and have been using the product to cool my 7600x, its definitely pretty good, but i found it not reaching enough fan speed when the CPU was being used a lot so i ended up running it on full blast always to make sure my CPU remained below around 90C. thermalright makes wonderful products and this is one of them, but there is better out there. the RGB is nice and it has some good fans, but you can get more efficient air coolers for a better price than this one. its also very large, so its likely to not work with most cases, be sure to think about the size of things

This thing is huge and I love it. Keeps my 5700X3D super cool, like nears 20s when idle and keeps temps down when underload very well.
It took me a minute to figure out how to put the fans on the block but its pretty standard once I looked up some vids. Very easy to install and the instruction book gives you decent detail (but a quick vid search will help with any q’s). It has parts for both AMD and Intel as well as quality parts.

This cooler has a very nice sleek design that I find appealing. The installation is very simple. I was worried it wouldn’t fit in my NR200P with the TG panel, but to my surprise it fit perfectly. I’m happy with the improved temps I get over the stock AMD cooler.
It is important to note you will want to have low profile RAM if you use this cooler because it will push up on the fan and lose contact with the heatsink, or if you are using an NR200P like me, you won’t be able to close the side panel completely.

These twin towers heat-sinks are huge and keep everything nice and cool. Coupled with a clear case, it look great, too. Super happy with it. I’ve done stress tests and it’s been pulling its weight.

Im installing it on a ryzen 7 7900x, am5 platform. I switched from an AIO to this. I had my AIO for 4years now and I wanted get ahead and change before something goes wrong.
My current cpu temps
Idle: AIO: 47deg, phantom Spirit: 45deg
Gaming (helldivers): AIO: 67ish, phantom Spirit: 67ish
Cinabench 2024 score: AIO: 1646 phantom spirit: 1647
Build quality:
The build quality of this is extremely amazing. Feels quality and looks quality. The size is smaller than a nh-d15 but performs on par with it. The fans are amazing quality as well. I was worried with the fan brackets since it seem flimsy. However, after installing it, its very much secure.
Cooling Performance:
Performs the same as my old Kraken x63 AIO and nh-d15. In some cases, it performs maginally better when compared to both. In my opinion, highend cooling has plateaued and price is the only driving factor.
Noise:
Its slightly louder than an AIO when on stock (but thats normal, AIOs are quieter in general) However, the performance of this thing is so good that I am able to turn down the fan speeds significantly. I have it at 25% when below 50deg, 40% below 70deg, and 80% at 85deg. Its a very quiet hum for most usage unless im stress testing. My video has the fan speed around 40% and u can barely hear it even with the glass off.
Installation:
I had a bit of confusion when installing it, because the stand offs say am4 and I was hessitant to just use that for my am5 incase it bends the pins on my motherboard. However, their website says it works for am5 and it does! I was still careful not to overtighten the screws just incase. Additionally, on am5, you dont need a motherboard backplate, its a really easy install process.
My only irk:
The fans come with two connectors, both the pmw and argb. Its extra wired that I had to manage, but mostly not a problem.
Conclusion:
This aircooler is a steal and a must buy for any build! I suggest even if you dont a highend cpu to get this one and use it for years to come! Its literally highend cooling for less than 1/2 the price. I feel like modern AIOs are not worth it anymore unless you are going for a certain aesthetic. Especially with the AIOs many potential failure points.
Additional tips:
If you use a 7000 series ryzen, i highly recommend you undervolt it as it would use significantly less power for almost the same performance. My temps went down by 18degs for a 2% performance loss.

Whether you’re after the highest possible CPU overclock, or just looking to build a PC that’s silent under load, you should choose your CPU cooler carefully. The best CPU cooler for your build will make a big difference in your system’s temperatures and fan noise. In high-end systems, it can even deliver better performance by keeping boost clocks higher for longer.
