The kind of quality and attention to detail that I’ve come to expect from OXO. I had a pot of this style made by Calphalon but it got knocked off the counter (empty, thank god) and dented so that the lid no longer fit tightly. I chose this one because it is closest to what I had previously. I use it for pasta, steaming larger quantities of food (broccoli, eggs, etc.), and blanching. The lid fits well and the insert has a lip that integrates it well with the pot. The insert also has little feet molded into the bottom, which means that if you put it down somewhere (like the sink, for things that need to be rinsed in cold water to stop cooking), the whole bottom of the insert doesn’t sit flat on the surface, which makes for easier drainage as you rinse. I was pretty annoyed when my other pot was ruined, but this one is so much nicer that now I’m glad it happened. Highly recommended.

I want to try healthy cooking so I have been replacing non-stick stir fry pan with stainless steel pan. This pan is deep yet wide. Perfect for stir frying Chinese food.

This review is for the OXO stainless steel cookware set. I typically love OXO products, and trust them for their quality and well thought out designs. Even though there were no reviews for this cookware set when I purchased (only for the large stock pot), I took a chance on it, trusing the OXO brand. Unfortunately, they really dropped the ball when designing this cookware set. The frying pans have hollow handles with an obvious seam running down the back. Not only does this look cheap and unattractive, it also creates an area that’s nearly impossible to clean. The lids are also hard to clean, having an area under the rim where water and food particles will get trapped (and you cannot reach to clean). I would imagine rust and grime would build up here over time. These are two huge design flaws that are an absolute deal breaker for me, and I would think for many others too. I am returning, and I would not recommend this set to anyone else for these reasons.

This would be my second choice after the Heston 8 quart stock pot and pasta insert which combined is about twice or more as expensive as the oxo.
But if this suits your budget you will be perfectly content with it it’s a great pot and a fantastic pasta insert
Here’s what I wrote about the Heston set:
I recently purchased the 8 Quart Hestan Stock Pot with the pasta insert, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. This gorgeous stainless steel pot is not only dishwasher safe but also compatible with induction and any other type of stove. The lines and design are so beautiful that I leave it out on the counter, and it looks great.
I use this pot daily to boil medical devices like nebulizer cups, which I use two to four times a day. Because of its stunning design, I don’t have to haul it out of the cupboard each time. If it didn’t look so good, I would have to put it back every time, but thankfully, I can keep it out. Even the rivets are completely dishwasher safe.
The only slight downside is the price, but for something that’s going to be used as much as this stock pot, it is well worth it. For anyone who is a serious cook or a heavy user of a stock pot, this piece of equipment is a must-have. It provides a beautiful sensory experience in the kitchen if you can carve out the budget for it.
I have gone through several stock pots with different strainers and inserts, and this one works the best, especially with the pasta insert. Many stock pots come with steamer inserts, but I couldn’t find any other attractive pots that came with a pasta insert. Other options were either not compatible with induction or not as visually appealing.
I was initially hesitant to make this purchase because of the cost, but I’m so glad I did. I do not regret it one bit. This Hestan Stock Pot is a perfect blend of beauty and functionality, making it a valuable addition to any kitchen.

The pasta insert rests over an inch above the bottom of the pan. This is definitely a flaw in the pan. Therefore, you cannot fill the water to the top holes because it will boil over. The pan is very heavy, well made and looks good. But filling with 2 pounds of pasta will cause over flow. I do not recommend this item due to this flaw. I bought it for the capacity, but it really does not function like it is described.

Overall I decided to keep it but I bought it specifically to boil pasta inside the strainer so it would be easy to drain while being able to keep some pasta water for certain recipes. The strainer doesn’t sit deep enough to have enough water in the pot to boil pasta without water boiling over the top and all over your stovetop. It is a nice heavy duty pot and I guess at some point I will use it for steaming.

I have an older steam pot that I use, but I found that when friends come over that one is not enough for lobster steaming. So I got another and run two at a time. Works out well and everybody is happy. Plus, it’s a good looking steamer.

Have only used once to steam bok choy and asparagus. They came out perfect! There’s room for 2″ of water so the pot won’t run dry. Strainer fits snugly in pot so no steam spitting out at the junction, a common complaint with cheaper pot/strainer combos.
Bear in mind that steam continues to rise after you turn off burner and remove lid. If you want to scoop veggies out of the steamer while it’s sitting in the pot, wear an oven mitt so you won’t be burned by the steam.
I really REALLY didn’t want to spend this much on this pot but so far, it is clearly worth it. Another great OXO product!
