I’ve been using this Fiskars trowel for many years and I absolutely love it! The soft grip is incredibly comfortable, making it easy to tackle any gardening task. The blade is strong, sturdy, and rust-proof, ensuring it withstands regular use. This trowel is a must-have for basic gardening needs, and its ease of cleaning and storage (thanks to its hangable design) make it a convenient addition to any gardening toolkit.

I was very disappointed in the quality of this tool. I bought it thinking – looks like a great deal and it’s a Fiskars. I feel funny giving a review since I didn’t used it but for a couple of reasons (quality and health warning) I decided to let other people know what I found out about this Fiskars 7079 Big grip Garden Knife. I returned it and I am so glad I did because I found the Jackson Seven-in-One VersaPlanter Garden Multi-Tool and It is so much better than the Fiskars 7079 Big grip Garden Knife. The differences between the two knives are striking:
Fiskars 7079 Big grip Garden Knife:
1) Welded poorly – there were holes where it was welded and it was very shabbily done – both sides were indented, some places had more solder than others it was so poorly done that I didn’t feel it was safe to use.
2) Came with health warning – “This product has chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm”. I don’t use chemicals in my garden why would I use any tools that could cause me harm?
3) No sheath or anything safe to put it in – It’s sharp enough to cut me or damage any bag I’d put it in.
4) “Coated metal resists rust” – It says it’s cast-aluminum in the product description but Aluminum is to soft by itself so what other metal is it mixed with?.
Jackson Seven-in-One VersaPlanter Garden Multi-Tool:
1)Very well made – solid Stainless Steel. It does not feel like it will snap off the first time I use it (like the Fiskars did) or for that matter at anytime. Seems like a very heavy duty tool. The blade/shaft is heavier and thicker than the Fiskars.
2) Polypropylene and TPE grip – Food Grade – Not known to be dangerous.
3) Comes with a great leather and plastic sheath that the tool snaps into.
4) Stainless Steel – resists corrosion. I’m not sure on this one – it depends on how good the stainless steel is. It does seem like a nice heavy durable stainless but only time will tell.
5) I like a few of the added functions – Twine Cutter, Tamper and the 12″ Measure tool
I don’t know if there is a better garden tool than the Jackson tool out there but for about 4 dollars extra there is no doubt in my mind it’s a much better buy than the Fiskars.
Update: Sorry in my comparison I used the Jackson Seven-in-One VersaPlanter Garden Multi-Tool. However it is not available and may not be ever again (unfortunately I was going to buy a couple for friends). My opinion still stands – don’t buy the Fiskars. If you can’t get the Jackson Knife buy almost anything else. If I find another good knife I’ll update again.

My husband usually goes through several trowels every year, digging in the garden. This one is going to last a long time though because of it’s sturdiness. It is also a bit bigger than most trowels, so fits his hands better and the handle is comfortable to hold. We would recommend this for anyone wanting a more-rugged garden tool. A bright red handle might be the only improvement, so he can locate it quickly once he sets it down.

I love using this to dog up treasures we find metal detecting and to dig out rocks we come across on hikes. It’s sturdy, sharp point makes digging a breeze

i love this garden tool for digging out weeds and stray bits of Bermuda grass. If I dig up too big a chunk of dirt i use the knife or serrated edge to break up the clump. I like that the blade is sturdy and not short. I can dig deep to get those Bermuda roots. This is the second one I bought so that my husband and I each have one . The first one is now 5 years old and still going strong. As far as I am concerned, ANYTHING Fiskars is a good quality tool. I have other Fiskars products…a large paper cutter in my craft room and scissors. Also a blade sharpener . Give it a try…you won’t be disappointed!

Bought as a Mothers Day gift. Very sturdy, good handle and never rusts. It is built well and the quality shows. Would recommend you purchase the hand spade as well. The price is very good considering the quality you are getting.

Arrived in good time and comes with a lifetime warranty, it is the only gardening trowel I have ever tried (been gardening for 30+ years), that has a lovely comfortable grip. Although it is slightly heavier than other trowels, it is sturdy enough to do a proper job and would definitely recommend to any serious gardener who is fed up with all other trowels bending / breaking. I absolutely love it !!!!!!!!!!

A great gardening tool, with the double tip for weeding. Pretty sturdy and VERY useful! Only negative is that it will rust if left outside in the wet weather… so keep it clean and dry after use.

I love this garden knife!
I bought one about 10 years ago. I loved it so much, I bought another.
By accident, I left out out over this past winter (oops), and the handle rusted and fell off.
The other one still works great. I like having 2, so I bought another one this spring
