I decided to give this coat a try based on the warmth and price. I am from Michigan and run a year round tree company and this past Christmas decided to buy everyone in my company (roughly 12) people coats for presents. These coats fit perfectly. It is a little bulky at first, but once you wash them (yes machine washable and dryer able) they slim down a little. Being as how this was the coldest winter Ever (not really but its up there) I am very happy with my purchases. Outside very little wind blows through the coat and you stay pretty warm. On the warmer winter days, its almost to warm. My only 2 complaints (and the reason I only gave it four starts) with it are 1 – Half of the zippers were/are extremely hard and aggravating to zip. On my coat, I actually had to cut away some of the material before I would work the zipper, and 2- the hood is useless. I really wish it was detachable. It is so much bigger than the rest of the coat it will not stay on your head and if you do attempt to use it the wind is just going to blow it back down. I recommend a hoody underneath or a separate hat. All in all they monogram very well (but next to impossible to remove monogramming if a mistake was made) and all of my employees love them! Very worth the money. Also, these coats seem like they will last a long time. Several of my employees replaced coats from five year ago with these that are still very wearable and nice looking. Seems like this Christmas going to have to find something else to buy them, which I am so happy with the coats, will probably be the matching bibs. Highly recommend these for outside workers.

I say a decent cool weather jacket deliberately. This is not going to be too useful in very cold weather but for just your standard Scottish chilly spring day this thing did the job. Mostly.
The issue is the zip. I’ve no idea what on earth is wrong with it but at times it just flat out refuses to zip up. Then at other times it glides up effortlessly.
If the zip worked properly every time, I’d give it a 4.5 out of 5.

My husband is a die-hard Carhartt man. He also absolutely hates a heavy jacket. I purchased this one size larger on purpose, so he could still wear his tried-and-true Carhartt hoodies underneath. To my surprise he absolutely loves this jacket. It’s light weight and totally lives up to the Carhartt name in quality as well as, durability. We will be purchasing again!!

My son is ALWAYS outside in the cold, walking long distances to various friends’ houses. I took him to look for a new jacket and he immediately went to this jacket. It was rugged looking, but I thought it would be heavy and uncomfortable…boy was I wrong. The outer shell looks like you can walk through a briar-patch with total invincibility. Overall, it looks somewhat understated, yet something that caught his eye. The polyester thermal lining was something that I feared would not keep him warm compared to the high-priced, high-tech fibers in other jackets. Wrong again! He was out for hours walking in 28 degree weather with 15-20 mph winds, and he was warm. Even the hood is thermal-lined! The sleeves have rib-knit cuffs and the waist has the same design to pull tight and keep the cold out. The jacket has two large pockets to keep your hands warm and are large enough to fit gloves comfortably. There are also two convenient inside pockets, handy for cell phones or whatever. The seams are triple-stitched and look like they will last a long time, and the zipper is heavy brass metal construction.
My son is average height, so the slightly smaller sizing than other jackets, like the Dickie’s brand, made the jacket fit much better and did not appear to engulf him. The jacket was not as bulky as I thought, was warmer than I thought, and had the construction I expect in jackets double the $64 price I paid. Local stores had this jacket for $90 + tax, so I easily spend the extra few dollars to get 2-day shipping.

“Carhartt”. The new way to spell bulletproof.

I spend a lot of time outdoors, either hiking in the mountains or crewing for a hot air balloon, and I needed a jacket with a hood. This Carhartt is ideal for my purposes. I like the look, and the fact hat it has all the right pockets–the ones in front are perfect for keeping your hands warm, and there are two inside pockets for odds and ends, one with a zipper, and one with a Velcro closure. The other day the temperature was in the low thirties, and the wind was blowing at 10-20 mph, but I needed to make a 2-mile walk. With the Carhartt over a couple layers of shirts, I was toasty warm, and the hood keep my ears protected. The coat was a little stiff at first, but since I’ve washed it, it has relaxed and fits more comfortably.
Pros:
1. Made in America
2. Very rugged materials and construction
3. Excellent pockets and hood
4. Blocks wind and keeps you warm
Cons:
1. Stiff at first, but washing improves that
2. The zipper sticks a little at the upper seam of the pockets
Overall, this is a great jacket. It works best when used as the outer shell of a layered approach.

Sizes are big. If you are xl. Go medium

Excellent Jacket. 5’11” 200 lbs, Loose fit as advertised. This is a light to medium duty jacket. Loose fit good to have to add heavy shirt and tee shirt underneath to build up installation in cold weather. Outside is a nice looking medium soft burlap material that can take abuse of the outdoors. This jacket will have good rain resistance, though, mostly likely mite soak through after 6hrs of intense outdoor rain. Has 2 pockets on the inside. The manufactured quality and stitching is excellent. Excellent value for the price.

Just got back from two back to back trips. San Bernardino mountains in southern California and a trip through Tennessee both in the winter. Highs ranged from 30s-60s. In the 30s I wore a light sweater and Tshirt underneath. Above 50 I was warm with a just a t-shirt under. Over 65 and this jack is almost too warm. Love the canvas feel of the outer and the lining on the inside. It’s a very tough jacket and the hood is larger than most other jackets. Kept me dry in both rain and snow. I can hear the drops bouncing off my hood. It’s a little loose/bulky fit… But that’s what makes it great for layering. Great job with this design Carhartt. One more thing… The front pockets are very deep. I can discreetly keep a beer in each one and they don’t stick out at all for those long walks away from the campsite!
