…due to decreasing battery life and wear and tear on the charging port..but in fairness I have used it every day for five years and it still works…the USB-C is an improvement over the micro-usb connection…the weight is about the same…the new unit has better ram and storage than the previous unit along with the screen display but for myself the change had been marginal (so far) with the caveat that I only use it to read e-books and stream movies and for that purpose it (IMO) is one of the best bang for the buck items on the market…my only two real complaints are the sound which is nasty/horrible on some movies…you really need headphones or some sort of bluetooth connection to other speakers…the other is that it was extremely difficult to connect to my Altice/Optimum Wifi…it took close to 40 tries before it made a connection…it was easier on my 2017 release…I’m not sure where to place the blame but it was a problem nonetheless…I would seriously suggest upgrading from the 9 to a 15 volt charger. Otherwise I am ok with this unit. Edit: what I do notice is the color is more vibrant than previous models…that’s a definite plus…also there is way too much bitchin’ about the screen lock…you only see it one time and you move past it…you save some money and a buck is a buck…I’ve actually had some useful information from the adverts. I would add You cannot rely on just the basic information from the manufacturer that its cord fits a Fire 10. It may or may not. ALL you have to look at is the charging port to see if it’s a USB-C or a micro-USB. For example, the previous Fire 10 I have is a 7th gen 2017 release that uses the micro-USB. Again, all you have to do is look at the charging port to see which one it is. My understanding is that the Fire can handle up to a 15W charger and the 9W one supplied by Amazon is too weak for my purposes. It may be they do this out an abundance of caution so that a power surge doesn’t damage the unit, but I come from a long line of village idiots so what do I know. I’m told the length of the cord may also affect how fast an item charges. I bought a 10ft one that works fine. My other observation after numerous Fires I have owned is the subject of reinforced/braided cords. My experience is that the braided cords because of their stiffness have a tendency to damage the charging port. And as many of you know that is usually the first to go. Yes, braided may last longer but I’d sooner replace a cord than a Fire. Considerably cheaper in the long run. All I know is that the 15w one works better than the OEM item. Just as an additional item there is this issue of breakage of the cord. I have bought a fair number of cords for my Fires over the years from various companies and have NEVER had a breakage issue. It is true that I have accidentally tripped over and otherwise inadvertently pulled cords from the Fire a number of times which could have resulted in breakage. I have been lucky it didn’t but have probably “worn out” the charging ports earlier than they should have because of my clumsiness. Considering I use and charge the Fire every day, regardless of the protestations, I am reasonably certain that most of the complaints from non-braided cords have resulted from that and not from defects in the cords themselves. All that is required is that you have to be careful when inserting and pulling the cord from the device as I have to keep reminding myself.

    I got the 64gb Fire HD 10 (2021) as a replacement for a 32gb Fire HD 10 (2017) Once reconfigured I consider it a good low-mid range android tablet.

After two days, I have my 512gb microSD card with numerous saved videos, Google Play Store, my favorite apps including Firefox, Google chrome and RS file manager. Many people complain about the lack of apps. If you are adventurous and willing to take a chance, look at the Fire Toolbox from XDA-developers. I suggest you backup the Fire HD before you use the toolbox. The main thing I used the Toolbox for was to install the “standard” Google Play Store.

If you have previously used a microSD card with a fire HD it may be formatted exFAT. ExFAT is no longer supported. Now strictly FAT32 is used and Amazon has somehow increased the storage limit beyond 32gb. I had to copy all the files off of my 512gb microSD card, reformat the card in the new Fire Hd and the copy the files back to it.

    Enjoy

I’ve been using my Kindle Fire 2021 release since last fall. There is a definite improvement in the screen and form factor. Also performance improvements

Pros: Inexpensive Android Tablet. This is an ideal tablet for people who just want to read books, listen to music, watch shows and surf the web. It has an easy interface that most people will find intuitive and easy to use. Cloud storage for photos.

Cons: Not enough storage, although it can be expanded with a micro SD card, I personally have had problems with those not holding up over time. The minimum internal storage should be 64 GB with an option for 128 GB so you don’t have to bother with micro SD cards. The app store is very limited, if the Google Play Store was available on the device a there would be a lot more apps to choose from and to sync with your other Android Devices. The web browser needs a lot of work and there aren’t any alternatives.

In the final analysis this tablet is a great choice for media consumption and causal use at a great price: if this sounds like you you really have nothing to use.

I personally would have difficulty using it as my primary tablet because of it’s limitations–so I have another brand tablet for those things. I use it for reading when I’m not home all the time.

Ok so I had given my older tablet to my granddaughter and needed a new tablet really just to take on trips. This tablet is nice with great video quality and I downloaded some things to watch on a long plane ride and that works great. Most importantly the price is right, except….. when I needed to go on the American Airlines app to watch some other content I couldn’t because fire tablets are not compatible with their inflight entertainment- maybe the whole app and it can’t be done via wifi- it has to be done through their app. Even after we landed from the first leg and my son tried the workaround to get Google playstore it still ended up giving me the same notice that it was incompatible with the AA app. I’m not sure exactly why they would have that limitation but they do. (Well, I have some ideas why but I will leave it at that). So, I gave the tablet to my other granddaughter and bought an ipad. So in my quest to save money, it ended up costing me more. There’s a lesson in there I’m sure.

Now, that is not a deal killer if you are in the market for an inexpensive tablet that does, for the most part, have great functionality, but for someone who travels a little and has a tablet for that function specifically, this might not be the tablet for you.
At the end of the day, my granddaughter needed a new tablet anyway. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that for me, that functionality was the exact reason I bought it in the first place.
