I’ve received my router/cable modem in the mail. When it arrived, it was still in the OEM box and it was practically brand new. I’m extremely happy with the purchase. As at first, I was a little skeptical, especially with it being Refurbished. But after having purchased and used the product I’m glad to do business with the seller again. Highly recommended to anybody looking for a high-speed router/modem that will last for years to come with upgrade speeds coming in the future from Internet service providers. For those who Don’t want to spend, the retail price as it is costly this is the way to go hands-down.

Oh my, the setup was not fun. Devices couldn’t connect no matter if I rebooted the device or modem. After a few days the problem seemed to stop. I have no issues now.
Be aware that the instructions given isn’t actually what happens. For instance, I have Comcast. The instructions given a basic walkthrough but aren’t accurate. Luckily I’m somewhat familiar with setting up networks. Another issue that I did need the app to complete something’s that could’ve been done via PC. And something’s that I tried to access the router via the PC…I got no response. I still have some common devices that cannot connect to my guest network.
The good: my speed is faster, and the app is cool

Modem worked great for internet, only downside was that you couldn’t connect to a work VPN. I got tired of getting the runaround from NETGEAR support and my problem not getting resolved. So I returned the modem to Amazon for a refund. I hooked my old modem back up and had no trouble using VPN. Just sad that I paid so much for what is suppose to be a great modem, but couldn’t get my issue fixed in a timely manner. NETGEAR just wanted to keep passing the blame to someone else or wanted me to pay more money for an extended warranty.

Seller shipped fast and well packed so no issues there. You may be tempted to get renewed as the price is way lower than buying it new, but the router was not reset properly and when finally had it going, it started with network issues and not connecting to my home devices like Macbook and iPhone. I then returned it and got it new, problems solved. Buying renewed/refurbished electronics is more than miss than a hit so if you can get it new with a discount or full price just save yourself a headache and get it that way.

The activation process provided by Xfinity using the phone app did not work. The NETGEAR tool access by using a browser (192.168.1.1) allowed me to easily find the problem. The authentication at application layer by Comcast. The call took about 45 minutes and additional 20 minutes after the call when I was told everything on their end was okay. You just need to be patient.

One important information you need is CM-MAC. There should be a sticker with this number on your modem but good to check in “ADVANCED”=>”Administration”=>”Event Log”. There should be entries with CM-MAC address in “Description”.

It’s been up and running about two weeks now. Except for one reboot it’s been working none stop with out an issue. The speed of my network is so much better now. Although my ISP reported really good network speeds I was getting dumped off my WiFi quite often with their modem. This has me on WiFi as much as I want to without fail. Great product to work with, easy to set up and use. The app has alot more detailed information than my last router app did. Also, the support team is great as well. They answered my questions and gave me good advice on how to set up other options I didn’t even know I had. Great product, people and service.

I understand it’s a refurbished product and knew the risk of the Gamble I was playing. It turned out to be in great shape. Almost brand new. But there were no LAN cables or instructions in the box. Just the router and power brick.
The most difficult hurdle I faced is the router didn’t come factory reset. The person who used it or the previous owners information were in the router. So while I could connect to the WiFi, but couldn’t access the admin interface to setup the wifi as I would want to. The default admin/password combo didn’t work. Had to use the reset button on the back multiple times to reset it. It didn’t reset for the first few attempts. Tried with coaxial cable on and off both. The 5th attempt without coaxial cable connected seemed to do to the trick. I had to press the reset button on the back for 7-10 seconds and the router was successfully reset. I was able to set-up the router with the admin web interface 192.168.1.1. But you can also use the Nighthawk router app to set it up.
Next was calling my ISP which is optimum in NYC, and ask them to activate my modem. I gave optimum the MAC address of this device, which is printed on the bottom, and it took them 15 minutes to activate it. After that it’s been a breeze! I’m using the 1 gig package. Getting 980 Mbps download via wired.
I could rate the product 3/4 star for the initial hiccups, but hey I am a tech savvy person and buying a refurbished product, these issues sometimes comes to haunt us. I hope this review helps if anyone else wants to purchase it in future and faces this same issue I faced.
Among the other reviews mentioned for this product where the signal dropping off, router restarting randomly or losing connection, I’m not facing any of the above. So far pleasant experience. Goodbye router rentals!!!!
