The x3000i seems to get all the reviews and attention. But the x500i is the little brother that is very similar under the hood and is only about half the size and weight. It basically has the same low input lag of 16ms in 4K mode and 4ms in Native 1080P. It has slightly less color accuracy in the DCI-P3 Color Space but most won’t be able to tell the difference.
The relatively small size and weight of under 10 Pounds allows you too easily transport it from the Bedroom to the Basement, only needing to plug in the cord and have a WiFi connection to watch movies. It also has all the connections you’d expect for audio and video options such as Optical Output, HDMI eArc and 3.5mm.
I use this with a small media cart in my small bedroom to project a 100″ image on my wall. Even though I’m not using a screen and the image is over a door, it still looks great because of the bright crisp image produced.
The only negatives for me was Rainbow Effect 🌈 being noticeable in some high contrast scenes. 4K mode seems to have less RBE than 1080P. If your sensitive that’s something to take in consideration. Also on full Brightness in pixel-shift 4K the fans and buzz are a bit on the loud side. Thankfully ECO Mode with 1080P is much quieter, if you don’t need 4K quality and are in a light controlled room.
I think this is the best smallish projector for movies and games out there right now. When you consider it’s versatility for being able to move it around or mount it to a ceiling for dedicated theater. Speakers are also pretty good and plenty loud for a small to medium size room. Some rattle with low bass notes though.

After researching gaming projectors the Benq x500i seemed to be a great fit for my gaming and entertainment needs. I was Wrong!! The picture quality was horrible. In both low ambient light and dark rooms. Regardless of picture adjustments the picture was washed out and uneven. I purchased a screen which added zero picture enhancement. Returned within 24 hours.

I purchased this 4K short throw projector for my garage/mancave, as the garage motor on the ceiling prevented a standard throw projector. I am displaying the projector image on a 150″ screen from 8ft 3inches away, and could not be happier with the quality of picture out of the box. Very little adjusting is needed to get a good picture, and setup was straight forward with no issues.
This is a great projector for home theater and gaming. The projector recognized my PS5 and Nintendo Switch once plugged in, and automatically adjusted the picture accordingly to maximize game play. There are several gaming modes to choose from, so depending on your gaming preferences there is plenty to offer with this projector.
4K HDR movies look incredible, and so far I am very pleased with the overall performance of the Ben Q x500i on the home theater side of things. The speakers built into the projector are ok, but I definitely recommend leveraging a full audio system for overall experience.
The 4LED technology has a great picture, and no bulb to change after 4000 hours of use. This projector is capable of 30,000 hours of use, which is amazing.
I highly recommend this projector to anyone looking for a 4K short throw projector with quality and performance in mind. This is my first Ben Q purchase, and it has defiantly exceeded all of my expectations. Well done Ben Q!!!!!

Purchased this projector 3 weeks ago and have used it a bunch over those three weeks.
The short throw was exactly what I needed for my space. I have it ceiling mounted from about 7.5′ and currently have it at a 135″ screen size with some zoom. Having a whole wall that is a screen is from that close is pretty awesome.
The picture looks great! It isn’t the brightest projector at this price range but the short throw and LED light source was worth the trade off for me as I have a light controlled room. Can definitely still watch things on it when some lights are on but dark more cinematic scenes will suffer. I haven’t really delved deep into the settings or calibration yet as it is pretty good out of the box.
I also game on it and it performs well. No noticeable input lag at all. Mind you I’m not playing competitive shooters, mainly just RPG’s or casual shooters with my kids.
There is a noticeable hum when the fan is running but in ECO mode it quiets down without taking away picture quality or much brightness. During a movie or game it isn’t really noticeable unless you’re listening for it.
It was easy to install with an universal ceiling mount. Tricky part is getting it placed in the correct spot but that would be the case with any projector without lens shift.
I don’t use the built in speakers as I have a surround system and this projector has an audio return channel which is a great feature for that. When it was first set up and I didn’t have the audio cables ran yet it sounded pretty good.
I am overall very satisfied with this purchase. If you’re in need of a short throw projector like this its a must buy.
