This is my first sublimation printer and I am very happy with this printer. The photos that I have printed have been very good quality and vibrant colors and have applied really well to the sublimation blanks I have used. I like that it will self clean the heads as long as the printer power is on. It was important to me to get an actual sublimation printer in order to have the warranty on it.
The printer works with the Artspira app. This app is only available on a smart phone or tablet. It is very difficult to design on such a small screen. Brother needs to have a program that will work on a computer to make designing easier.
I did gave difficulties getting my phone to connect to the printer after I designed my work on the very small screen. I used the chat feature on the Brother site and they were able to help me get it connected in order to print.

I didn’t want to convert a printer and deal with all the silly games of what can go wrong so I got this true sub printer. To me it works great.. easy to print. It prints quickly and the quality has been good for me. Did exactly what I needed it to do for a good price and no guess work.

The print quality is good, so far haven’t replaced the ink since l bought it. Was easy to connect and configure. Very compact printer so it wont take too much room. Hardly any jamming so far.

The media could not be loaded.

I have had this for about a month now. I absolutely love this printer. The price point is well worth it. So easy to use and set up. The colors are so vibrant. I use it everyday for multiple projects. I always recommend it to others when they ask about sublimation printing. I only wished I could print bigger images. The Artspira app could be better but it helps.

I was initially looking at the Epson EcoTank for a sublimation printer. The Epson Surecolor F170 was out of my budget, and I have also read some reviews of people having issues with the printer. It’s supposedly built on older Epson EcoTank technology. I didn’t want to get a regular Epson EcoTank to convert because of the different issues I would have to deal with (continuing to print so the printer doesn’t clog and voiding the warranty). So, I have been looking at the Brother Sp-1 for a couple of months. I love this printer. It was easy to set up. I use Brother and HTVront sublimation paper. I’m thinking of trying A-Sub on my next order. It prints fairly quickly. I do not use the Artspira app, although I have the printer connected. I also downloaded the drivers and printed my images from my computer. This printer also does self-maintenance.

I’m thoroughly disappointed with the Brother Sublimation Printer and would not recommend it. Out of the box, the setup process was more complex than anticipated, with unclear instructions and frequent errors. The print quality was inconsistent, with colors often coming out dull or inaccurate, despite multiple attempts at calibration. I experienced frequent paper jams, which disrupted my workflow and wasted a lot of materials. The printer’s software is buggy and doesn’t integrate well with other design programs, making it frustrating to use. The connectivity options were unreliable, causing frequent disconnections and delays. Additionally, the printer is quite noisy during operation, which can be distracting and bothersome. The build quality feels flimsy and not as durable as I expected. The customer support experience was also poor, with slow response times and unhelpful solutions. I faced issues with ink usage, as the cartridges seemed to run out quickly, leading to higher operational costs. The sublimation prints didn’t have the sharp, vibrant quality I was hoping for, making my final products look less professional. The lack of clear troubleshooting guides added to the frustration. The printer’s design is bulky and takes up more space than I anticipated. Overall, this Brother Sublimation Printer has been a letdown in terms of performance, reliability, and ease of use. I regret investing in this product and would advise looking for alternatives.

This printer is really okay for someone who is just beginning with sublimation printing and/or any kind of printing. However, the colors often print too light if you’re doing photos, and no amount of saturation manipulation or other adjustments in Photoshop or Illustrator will change the way the thing prints. It doesn’t come with a printer profile for Adobe products (like almost every other kind of printer does), and the website has no information on printer profiling for this product. It sublimates pretty well on some materials (like mousepads, magnets, and MDF), but leaves a lot to be desired on things like ceramic ornament blanks. It only prints well with Brother-brand sublimation paper. (It prints too lightly on other paper brands, I’ve found out.) At this point, I haven’t decided whether to replace it with another brand or just keep trying to get better printed results from it. Unfortunately, the product is so new that very little information on getting better printed results is available. I haven’t tried the associated software, Artspira, but when I opened the app on my phone, it looked pretty limited in its capabilities to do anything with things like imported artwork used for ceramic ornament blanks. I will say that it’s a good-looking machine, it’s a nice size, and the set up and operation is very simple.
