A lot of the reviews for this product are spot on. The downsides are the strings are crap but can be replaced with decent strings for as little as $18. The other downside is that the pegs have a hard time holding their tune but peg drops will fix that and its a $5 fix. The many positives include a decent bow, good sound, light weight, great price, and great features such as headphone plug. It is great for those looking to try out a electric violin at a reasonable price without making too large of a investment.

So the Violin pickups are actually fairly good and if you add some modulating sound effects from a guitar foot pedal you can actually get it to sound really nice and it’s fun to play but here’s the thing there is quite a lot of work that needs to be done to get this thing even remotely playable.

First off the string that comes with as you can imagine are garbage, I changed them to high quality D’Addario Helicore Violin String Set, really inredible how much better it feels and sounds acoustically!

You can’t expect much of this budget violin but I strongly recommend on buying a better bow which eventually you’ll end up wanting to buy any anyways. The bow feels very weak and its slight curved and over bows over basic tension.

The nut on the top is extremely high to the point that it’s almost impossible to push down the strings on the top of the neck. You’ll need to have a good Luthier sand it down to make it playable.

Next is the bridge shape, it’s a factory round shape that is not evenly distributed. I ended up needing a new bride and had it cut properly,

Next was the pegs, they are cut half circular half hexagon shape while the holes are round which makes tuning a nightmare. I had new pegs made for it to be able to be properly tuned but even then the wood used to make the scroll is of cheap wood so fine tuning it still made it slightly challenging but significantly better with newer pegs combine it with a fine tuner Wittner tail piece and you have an amazing sounding and feeling violin. Overall with parts and having a luthier make you a new bridge, new pegs and sand down the nut, replacing the tail piece you’ll spend around $350.00 on top of the cost of the instrument.

So until that was done, i became happy with the sound and feel.

I’ve had to replace two of the fine tuners on the instrument – they were not expensive only $3.00 each – but was inconvenient, and could have been more $$ if the people at the local music shop were not as good as they are. Also the battery went down really quickly. I’m not sure it that was because it was a junky battery, or if the violin pulls down a lot of juice.
