Michael S. Jackson –
I have not yet played all the titles in this book. It’s good to see a classical guitar Beatles book, but in my opinion, this book is not for the beginner. The intermediate player will find this book easier. The songs don’t have a very definable, or obvious, melody line and uses lots of fill-in notes makes which makes it difficult to figure out what is going on. It would have been a great help to have an accompanying CD to hear what each song is supposed to sound like. I have been a Beatles fan for decades and have studied their music extensively so I know what the songs sound like when they did them, but the way these are arranged in this book, it’s very hard to know what the arranger had in mind.

Lots to refresh and learn. Been years. Tab is new learning experience for me. Like it a lot.

Great old songs , download worked great. Nicely done with the best of the Beatles work, makes great fun playing some songs that folks recognize after playing Sor and Carcassi.

More for intermediate players great book I like it

Contrary to several negative reviews, that dissed the arrangements and/or the song selections, I found this book well worth the modest price. By way of background, I have both the Larry Beekman as well as Joe Washington books (mentioned in some reviews here and clearly ‘classics’ for pop fingerstyle guitarists. I also have the other Mel Bay book; i.e., ‘The Beatles for Easy Classical Guitar’, arrangements by Mark Philips). As to be expected, the arrangements in this one (by John Hill) are clearly more complex and interesting (as well as more difficult) than in the ‘easy’ Mel Bay book by Phillips and generally seem geared more toward the ‘advanced’ beginner or intermediate player, though they do not venture far up the fret board. I do find some (but not all) the arrangements on a par with the two highly respected Beatles classical guitar books by Beekman and Washington. Moreover, this book contains many great songs (some of which seem perfect for solo classical guitar) that are not in either Washington or Beekman. Therefore, any classical guitarist interested in expanding his/her Beatles repertoire, this book is highly recommended and likely to be well worth the modest price for 31 songs, including TABs. The arrangements, for the most part are fine; my major criticism is that the chord progressions are not provided.

This is NOT the Larry Beekman book (as shown in the “Look Inside” preview), nor is it the Joe Washington book. This is one of “those” Hal Leonard books. The arrangements are accessible for musicians needing to flesh out their gig book or beginning-intermediate students looking for something familiar for study. The credited arranger is John Hill.
The songs are arranged in guitar-friendly tunings and none of the arrangements takes up more than 3 pages, even with the tab. Where there is melody it’s clearly delineated. It’s helpful that the verse, chorus and bridge sections are labeled. There’s some “coda” and DS jumping-about, but that’s to be expected with pop songs. I thought it was funny (but helpful) that the arranger clearly pointed-out the “outro” sections.
For what it is, it’s a good book. The Beekman and Washington books are better for more advanced players. Those arrangements are more thoroughly developed and more interesting but also more difficult.

I love this book. Perfect arrangements. It could be for intermediate guitarist. I highly recommend this book :). One of the best book of Beatles and sheets music for guitar.

I often have a Beatles day. This is perfect for that.It is a top performance book. The arrangments are first class. Normally a classical guitar Beatles book. Will just give the main theme, and fill-ins. John Hill though provides detailed arrangements. A lot of the songs have the solo’s as well. Such as ‘A Hard Day’s Night’. and ‘Something’. The book has a great selection of songs. Some of the later Beatles work, are included. From the White Album. ”Goodnight’ is especially good. Also ‘Free as a Bird’. Makes my guitar sound excellent.
A very important Beatles book
