The file cabinet looks attractive but the bottom of drawers do not seem sturdy. It took about two hours to put together and there are a lot of parts! The directions could be in a bigger print. I am going to keep the file cabinet but I would not buy it again.

This cabinet is an attractive, versatile and relatively low cost option that works well in small spaces. The fact that it has rollers that lock is really nice when you need to maximize space and file storage. It is a good low to medium cost option, but don’t expect high end performance or appearance. Assembly takes a little time.

Box is very heavy. Not real wood, finished pressboard. The Back and bottom of drawers are cardboard. So don’t think about putting anything heavy in them. Just for hanging files. Just the bags of screws, etc. will scare you. They did put a few extra screws in the bags, which was helpful. Was TOTALLY disassembled. They could have screwed some peices on so it would be a little easier and go quicker. Comes with a small philips head. since there are so many parts, use your own regular size philips head or even a small screw gun or drill. Which I didn’t have and my hands are sore. They say have help, but the only help would be the last part which is sliding the drawers on to the rails and then screwing them in. A little challenging, but I did it by myself. The instructions are ok, but they could make them larger so they can be easier to be read. I had to use a magnifier on some instructions. It will serve my purpose, but thinking back, I wish I had gotten the fully assembled metal cabinet.

It takes time to put it together but it’s worth it. Cabinet is well built and attractive. Smart to have rollers for easy movement Adequate storage capacity. Would highly recommend it.

This filing cabinet is so easy to put together and actually matches my desk perfectly. It is sturdy and holds quite some weight. It is just as expensive as the metal ones you can buy in stores but this one is wood so it doesn’t dent or sound like nails on a chalkboard when you open or close the drawers. If you’re on the fence about it, just order it!

The DEVAISE 2 Drawer Wood File Cabinet is excessively over-priced for a pressboard structure. Yet, it is functional and as you can see from the photos and very useful.
POINTS:
1) Assembly is VERY complicated…yes VERY as in Extremely complicated. Upon first opening the hardware pouch – that alone may be enough for you to give up without venturing any further. There are literally hundreds of pieces.
2) Give yourself plenty of room. You’re going to need it! There must be 35-40 boards and plastic parts to arrange in some order. Fortunately, for the most part, these items are lettered.
3) You may have noticed that in Photo #1 there are 3 items NOT included in the kit. I consider them essential. First the Wood Glue: You are screwing into what amounts to pressed sawdust and wood chips. Yes, your screw will bite into the board but if you want it securely anchored in place, use a dab of quality wood glue. Second: The need for a good power screwdriver should be fairly self-explanatory. Save your wrist and use a power screwdriver. WARNING – Do Not Overtighten. Third: A level will come into play when it’s time to properly mount and align the drawers.
4) DECISION TIME: Here you must decide if this is a 1 party or 2 party undertaking. If you are assembling the DEVAISE 2 Drawer Wood File Cabinet solo, disregard all steps regarding the mounting of the 5 wheels. You will complete mounting the wheels AFTER you have installed the 2 drawers. Jumping past the wheel mounting will keep the cabinet steady as you mount the drawers into the tracks. If you have someone working with you, then just mount the wheels in step.
5) Apply CLOSE attention to the assembly instructions. There are multiple stages of assembly that require a clear understanding of a particular procedure. Often, the direction or orientation of a certain piece is critical and the distinction between the correct placement and the wrong requires extremely close inspection.
NEGATIVES: Beyond the DEVAISE 2 Drawer Wood File Cabinet’s excessive price for a cheap pressboard unit and the abundant use of plastic, the major negative is the use of cheap (the cheapest?) wheel sets. Not only do the resist rolling, when they do roll they mark our hardwood floors. Amazon sells some truly excellent wheels for cabinets but they range from $40-$120 USD. And, keep in mind, you need 5 wheels.

This was VERY challenging to put together–do it carefully!! The track for the drawers broke as I was putting in the final drawer and now the it barely opens but if I pull hard enough it does open. I am not happy with it exactly, but I just didn’t want to have to take it allllll apart to return it… but it’ll do the trick.
Update: The seller sent me replacement tracks after this review, and while it was annoying to have to do it twice, I was super careful this time around and it is working as it should. Very grateful for the good customer service and for a fully working filing cabinet!
