Steve Vander Veer –
Love the online pricing, (better than the store). Getting them within 3 or 4 days of ordering is a huge bonus.
Barton Shultz –
I’m sorry I ever doubted you, DR Legends. I’m NEVER playing anything else ever again!
Chrislwells –
These strings sound really good on my 5-string bass, but there’s just something about them that feels a little “off” to me. They are a hand-wound string, which sounds great, but it means that there are little inconsistencies throughout the strings. They don’t feel as good or as playable as the Ernie Ball Super Slinkies flatwounds on my 4-string. I got these simply because they would get here in time for a show. Now I wish I had stuck with my Ernie’s.
IamPain –
I’ve been playing bass for 45years, 25 of those years on fretless, and I think I’ve finally found THE strings, these strings play very well, and the tone lasts along time, and they just feel great, I highly recommend these flat wounds for fretless players
Raiffeisen Wiesloch-Baiertal –
Quality strings. I love their smooth texture and the quality of sound they produce. Did take a while to arrive- they came from Germany, so as long as you are not desperate, it’s not a problem. I bought some round wounds to tide me over, but will be putting these back on asap!

There were a few places on the packaging that said “brighter” sounding flats but sound like regular flats to me. I went with these flats simply because they gauge and also that I’ve had DR Strings before. Not disappointed but I wouldn’t say this strings are bright at all. I’ll be uploading a demo video to this product to so check that out. I play slab, pick, and finger style. They are quality strings, I’ll say that. I’ll also attach some pictures to this review. This is definitely a playable gauge, no fret buzz which is a huge pro. Over all, happy with my purchase but they probably drop the price on this a little. I think anything over $30 is asking for too much. But that’s all personally opinion. Along with the rest of this review. I was also surprised to find out that this strings have gold threading on both ends of every string, which didn’t turn out level on my bass but that’s a minor detail. I’ll include a picture of that as well. One thing that did get to me though, is that the last two strings(D&G) sounded much brighter than the other 3. So it sounds weird going from D string to A. That’s my only real complaint about this set, I’ll write an update on this later if I notice anything change over time. My other DR Strings seem so mellow out over the span of a few months so we’ll see how these do. And one last thing, the treading on the B string is not holding up, which you can see in the photo of the headstock. Not very pretty to look at.

Alles bestens
IamPain –
These strings play well and sound great. And at half the price of what I paid last time for another high end brand, I’ve found a great replacement.
R. Max Church Jr. –
Very smooth. These have a nice warm sound. The strings are very quiet for church but can carry a lot of volume if needed. I use them at church where excess noise is a distraction. I find these to be better than Earnie Ball flatwounds. Highly recommended.
Timothy O’donnell –
These particular flats are (to me) the best all-around string set (5er) for general bottom-end …
All genres, play nice with stomp boxes/effects, jump out on solos …
Thanks, DR Strings!
Multitaskle –
I bought these because I’ve always played on DR flatwounds, however these are the most poorly made strings I’ve ever had. All 5 strings broke away at the tie ends, before any tension was applied to tune. The tie ends are literally wrapped onto the bass string, and not actually part of the string itself. I can’t imagine how anyone has ever used these with confidence. I’m a 15 year bassist, never once have I seen this happen. This is a quality issue. It’s not worth my time to go out of my way to return these, so my advise is to just not buy the legends. I will never buy another set of legends again. this experience is a massive damper on my commitment to DR. I’ve always trusted this brand and the quality, and these have shown me DR has seriously lost both it’s quality control and ability to produce a product that is safe for it’s customers to trust. Worst string buy of my life.

I just replace half-round strings with this set of stainless DR flatwounds. These strings are so much better, they are absolutely smooth and play like butter. On the half-rounds my fingers would sometimes stick instead of slide because they were slightly rough. These DR’s have a very bright, consistent sound, even the G string. Although they are very new the fact they are stainless should mean they will last a long time, plus because they are flatwound there should be less dirt getting in the string grooves. The price of about $35 seems reasonable especially because bass strings last so long. If anything negative shows up in the next few months I will return and revise this review.
