I was happy to see this product was made in the U.S.A. As a manufacturer, I know how difficult the economy has been after the horrible trade deal – NAFTA. Unfortunately the quality control is lacking! This seems to be a common problem with products made in America these days.
First – this was not an easy install, so hire a pro if you have any trepidation. If you are able make sure your space is unimpeded and your rafters are true and square, your halfway there. Once you’ve mounted the ceiling frame and have found solid rafter wood, you are safe. Be aware of some quality control issues. You will need a rubber mallet. The first OBVIOUS quality failure is the welded square framing. For some reason they didn’t think it important to use repetition in an effort to assure accuracy! These welded frames vary in dimension based on simple manufacturing procedures. If they used the welded side as a datum, a lot of inconsistencies could be avoided!
Do yourself a favor – put the pulleys on each shaft first! The directions are incorrect / unless you want to grind .050 ” of weld off of each ! Also due to the aforementioned, you will need to use a rubber mallet at the least to get the base brackets installed. Do not assume your shafts are going to line up into the radial bearings. Some of it is alignment issues, which can be temperamental. Make sure there are no burrs on the shafts, or you will never get them to go in.
Product all in all is good! Of course, quality could and should be better at this price!
Addendum: They totally gloss over the fact that they cut a major corner – Instead of having 4 individual cables spooling clockwise or counterclockwise respectively, they actual thread one cable under pins on each side and expect it to spoil properly. They gloss right over this fact! Anyone with any knowledge of mechanics/engineering will realize this is a totally hokey short cut. Very disappointing….tempted to return this item!
