Look not gonna lie these are hands down some of my favorite strings. They feels and sound great! Perfect for playing that awesome heavy chugs while also being easy on the hands while playing leads! Hands down much more output! But thats where it stops as you’re going to have multiple packs of strings as back ups as these are some of the least durable strings I’ve ever played. Literally everytime I buy them one strings gives out within a month of having them. And for a 12$ price tag, it gets expensive. I wouldn’t mind if they were 5$ but for 12$ It gets ridiculous. If ernie ball sponsored everyone who bought these they’d be epic id never play any other strings but unless you have the money to keep replacing strings, don’t mind restringing the broken strings often, or don’t mind stopping a jam sesh or recording to restring then get them. If not Id rather get the cobalts for the same price and more durability, if you want the variability of the M-steels and output with the cobalts just go one string guage lighter

I think most people use these for a strong output/metal sound, but they have a pretty bold sound for cleaner playing. Lows are heavy and sustaining, while highs give a very nice and versatile bright sound. They do not bend as effortlessly as other slinkey strings, though – for me this is a good thing, as I often accidentally bend a string by being a ham-fisted noob.

My only complaint is that I prefer a string that’s easier to slide on. The cobalt winding has a lot of friction that is taking some getting used to.

My favorite new strings… well new is relative. I’ve been using these strings for months and I love them.
I’ve read some reviews about the strings being rough… and I can tell you that 4 of the 5 sets I’ve used start out rough… for like 10 minutes or less… they seem to sometimes have a rough unfinished coating on them and with a couple minutes of play they are smooth as silk. My first impressions was like… “The reviewers were right”… but I kept fiddling with them on my guitar and all of a sudden they were silky smooth.
My first thought was that I got used to them friction… but nope picked up my other guitar and the strings on it felt fine, so went back to the new strings and the were still silky smooth. Probably the smoothest feeling strings I’ve used and the sound… exactly what I wanted out of my Schecter Hellraiser and my Schecter Blackjack C1-P

I could see some people not liking the sound for some types of music… I wanted an aggressive sound to enhance my guitars sound… these did that. But they do not “ruin” my Blackjacks nice bluesy sound either.

If you’re afraid of the “they’re scratchy” reviews test them out for yourself. 1 set is cheap and not a big deal to try out. Just play them for a few minutes not 30 seconds. Or wipe them down… I’m going to try that on my next set and will post a follow up on here about how that works.

They were a bit overpowering out of the package but seemed to settle in short time. The strings still ring brilliantly and have a ton more life in them. If you chug, you should really try these strings. Metal, Blues, PowerBallad, these strings make it happen. Pricey but long lasting for fewer string changes.

I tried a different gauge to see how they play and sound.
    So far, I’m impressed.
Bright highs, crunchy mids, and roaring lows.
    They bend well.
I like them. I was using David Gilmore Blues and Reds, but I think I like these better.

Let me start off by saying that these aren’t normally the kind of strings I’m after. They’re more rigid and harder to bend than most other strings, but that comes with the territory of the kind of string you’re buying here.

First of all, they keep a tune better than most any other kind of string I’ve ever used of ANY brand, including Slinkys. This was the quickest restring/tune up I’ve had in a long time, and that’s instantly gratifying.

Second, the sound of them is fantastic. You can strum your electric guitar unplugged and it already has a relatively cloud, crisp sound. I’ve played it on a number of different settings, overdriven, clean, with different effects, etc. I didn’t notice a lot of difference with heavy effects on, but for distortion, the tone comes through a lot more crisply. I play a lot of hard rock/metal, so that’s a win to me.

With cleans it was the same idea. Until you put on some really heavy effects, the cleans sounded beautiful and crisp.

10/10 would buy this for a guitar where I’m either going to focus on strumming or focus more on the rhythm elements of my genre.

I’ve been sleeping on these for way too long. Normally my go to is D’Addario NYXL or Elixir Nanoweb. Just installed a set on my LTD EX400BD with Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega pickups and holy crap, they are by far the loudest strings I’ve ever had on a guitar. The acoustic brightness is unlike anything I’ve heard before (and no, it’s not just that they’re new), extremely articulate and punchy when plugged in, almost a chimey ring on clean channels and they definitely bring the heaviness when it’s time to shred. They just feel good on the fingers, the kind of strings that make you want to keep playing. I don’t know what this cobalt and maraging steel voodoo is, but it most definitely works.

I personally really like these,as with all things it’s about personal preference. I like the feel of these and the sound is good. I’m an 80s metal style player and these work well for all your pinched harmonic squeals, two handed tapping and the other shenanigans associated with aforementioned ilk. I’ve currently got them on my Charvel San Dimas so they hold up fine with a floyd. I’d recommend trying them. (-:

My husband’s favorite strings are Ernie Ball – they are easy to string onto the guitar and are great quality – this is the brand that my husband always gets with three guitars (currently) and years of experience with them
