Everything is really good on this entry level guitar. It looks more upscale – Squire in gold letters & a black layer in the white pickguard. Tuned her up and didn’t need a setup. It sounds like a Strat on a practice amp. The Yamaha THR-5 desktop was good enough for woodshedding sessions. The original strings could be better. The neck has a rough spot. Great first guitar for novices, hobbyist will like having one around the house.

I have had several guitars in my life , never spent more than $400 .I got my first Fender Squier Debut a little over a week ago , I just bought and received my SECOND Squier Debut , they are great guitars , but I will be modding BOTH of them with a new trem bridge with a Brass block and a prewired Stratocaster pick guard with a Humbucker in the bridge position and single coil in the middle and neck positions , I also bought a single Humbucker Van Halen prewired pick guard.
This is a really good guitar, nice neck , the frets are very nice , just one slightly sharp fret.
The pickups are really nice when used with overdrive and reverb , but they aren’t great , but they are more than adequate.
The setup out of the box was great , tuned it up and played it with my VOX ampliphones, action was great , just had one string on each was slightly out of intonation.

Gobsmacked, I like everything about it. Plays way, way above guitars at this price. Sometimes inexpensive guitars have sharp fret ends, need setup, strings changed, etc. Not this! Right out of the box it plays great, stays in tune, sounds pretty good. I even like the matte finish, wasn’t sure I would. The neck is the best thing about this guitar, pretty close to perfect. I’ve paid more for much lesser guitars. Not just for beginners.

For a $120 guitar. This is a steal. The set up was great out of the box. Surprisingly the tuners work very well. They are smooth turning and stay in tune. I like the satin finish neck, though there were some small imperfections. My only con would be the pickups. Very noisy, lots of hum. However I am going to mod out this guitar and replace the single coils with Seymour Duncan humbuckers that fit the same as a ceramic single coil.

Item description did not mention if this is new or refurbished. It came in bubble wrappers with no original packaging. And the item was not in perfect order

I’ve only had this Squier “Debut” Strat (in the sunburst matte finish) for a couple of hours– just long enough to examine it thoroughly and play it through my amp for awhile. I made some minor adjustments to the heights of the individual bridge saddles to get the action a bit more to my liking (each string just high enough off the board to be able to slide a Quarter under it, which gives me a nice medium-low action, and also results in the strings properly following the radius of the board). I must say, folks, there’s not a thing wrong with this guitar. The finish is beautiful; the neck is relatively thin, feels great in my fretting hand, and did not need any truss rod adjustment; the tuning machines are fine; the frets are good and not gritty; the intonation is very good; and best of all the nut is cut and set accurately. Plugged in, we get a bit of the typical single-coil hum in pickup positions 1, 3 and 5 (but not bad), and we have hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4 (both of which give us that Strat-ish out-of-phase sound such as you hear on the intro to the song “Free Ride.”. These may not be “primo” pickups, of course, but they’re perfectly usable. In conclusion, in my 58 years of guitar playing, with my primary gigging guitar having been a beautiful 1972 Strat, I would submit that I’ve never seen a better overall value than this Debut Strat right here. For $119? Crazy!

It’s a pretty cool guitar for a beginner, and plus for the price you get the Fender headstock.

There a lot of videos on you tube regarding that is flawless on the neck and frets, but at least mine it’s not, it has sharp frets, and the neck need it adjustment. Again for the price it’s great.

I wanted a guitar for a project, so for my purpose it fits really well.

Stock pickups have that strat sound so, if you are looking to save some money and have decent instrument this is a great choice.

    Absolute Kaufempfehlung .

My particular guitar did not have any sharp fret ends and the fret tops looked to be polished, or at the very least did not feel rough at all. It was very playable right out of the box. Action was 1.5mm on low E at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E with no buzzing on any fret when played without a heavy hand. Intonation was spot on, on all but one string which wasn’t off by much. The bridge was decked when I got it, floating it was the only change I needed to make. Truss rod did not need to be adjusted at all, there was a very slight bit of relief in the neck already. I didn’t check the gap between string and first fret or closely examine the nut but there was no indication that the nut was causing any problems. The back of the neck, as YT reviewers have noted is pretty rough feeling. The satin finish looks and feels great and doesn’t show finger grease like a glossy finish would. It weighed in at just under 7 pounds.

Guitar seems to hold tune when lightly using the tremolo but the tuners are the real weak point of the guitar. They do work, and the guitar stays in tune, but the tuners are not very smooth feeling at all. Sometimes they’ll feel very difficult to turn but then loosen up, sometimes it feels like the knob turns without doing much before having an effect. Sometime a slight twist of the knob makes too much of a change, so it is a bit difficult to make minor adjustments. They’re not good but they are serviceable. They are the first thing I’d consider replacing. The tremolo block is also very thin so that’s something else to consider swapping. I didn’t play it a whole lot through an amp yet but initial impression is that it sounds decent. Bridge pickup seems a little shrill but dialing back the tone control makes it acceptable.

For the beginner that this guitar is aimed at, I don’t think you’d need to change anything right away. It is perfectly playable out of the box, all a new player needs to do is tune it up and start playing. That’s the way it was with my guitar but of course this could vary. However, since some reviewers had the same experience it’s clear Fender must be making some effort to setup the guitars before shipping them. The initial out of the box experience, in my opinion, is better than any Indio or Firefly I’ve had and better than or equal to most IYV or Harley Bentons that I got. Considering you get a very competitively priced guitar, from a major brand, that may not need any work at all (unlike most budget instruments) and the free 3 months of Fender Play I think this is a real winner for a beginning guitarist. I have no problem recommending it to any beginner or even experienced guitarist.
