This stuff worked rather well, I washed my coat and let it dry for several days then sprayed it with this product and next rain it worked very well to keep me dry. I recommend it and will use it on othe coats. There was no smell after it dryed

Okay, at first I thought this product was too good to be true. I read the reviews, watched the video and still had a hard time believing it would work.

Let’s back up. I have a ten plus year old bright yellow LL Bean trail model rain jacket. Old school, simple but really made well. It has one or two cosmetic stains on it, but otherwise no rips or tears. Problem is the water proofing gave out some time ago – like years ago. I probably didn’t take care of it right, but I really dug this jacket. I finally got sick of rain soaking through the hood – there needed to be change.

My wife wanted to just buy a new one, but it’s expensive ($80). I wanted to try new water proofing, compromising that if it didn’t work she could buy me a new one.

The spray bottle came in the mail and sat on a shelf for a couple of weeks. I procrastinated because I thought it would smell toxic and make a huge mess. Finally some rain was predicted so I needed to either embrace a wet head or get to work. I donned some gloves and took the jacket outside. I feared for the worst.

It could not have been easier. Application was really as simple as spraying on, didn’t smell bad and made no mess (in my house or in the drier). The gloves were overkill and while I wouldn’t eat this stuff, next time I won’t bother.

I just tried it out in the pouring rain and I really am amazed. Water that previously soaked in, now beads up. I missed a couple of places so I will do another application. I should have done this years ago.

Even if this stuff just holds for a half a season, it’s worth every penny. The bottle says up to 4 treatments, but for me I think that is on the low end.

Another review said it didn’t hold up with regular use. I only wear this jacket in the rain, so it doesn’t get much use. It just needs to work when I need it.

I went on line for reviews to clean/water proof a black suede jacket that had become stained and shabby. This was rated No1 on the site I found. First I brushed the worst marks off and then applied this stuff. I applied more than recommended so the jacket was quite wet. The net results are that all the stains have gone. I’ve also used it on some suede and some nubuck shoes with similar positive results. Have bought again.

The spray is a little too focused to be able to get the complete garment completely soaked, but I was able to do 3 jackets. Haven’t had any of them out in the weather to test.

  6. Shopper

Gear Aid Revivex Durable Water Repellent was sprayed on my two nylon jackets. This doesn’t repel the water at all. It also leaves water marks on garment. I have notified the company and haven’t heard back. Update. The company got back with me. The instructions that they gave me are not on the bottle. From what I can see this product is only to touch up a fully waterproofed item. And I would be doubtful that it would do that. The coats I sprayed very liberally have no areas that even begin to repel water. The company said if I want I refund I would have to go through Amazon. I feel that there should have been more information regarding this product on the Amazon website.

I like to use this on my rain gear and boots every year or two so I stay dry when fishing tournaments in the winter months. Even the most expensive rain gear needs to be freshened up occasionally and this stuff does that job.

I’ve been using another similar brand for a long time and tried gear aid. It seems to work ok, but its not as consistent as what I was using. I tried the other brand side by side and this one doesn’t have a consistent bead up of water. I washed the garment first and it was only damp when coated. Gave it a nice even light coat and let dry for 2 days. I went outside with the coat in some light drizzle and water kinda beaded up but in some areas it soaked in. Over the whole garment there where white splotches that werent there before. I followed instructions and sprayed the garment when damp not soaked, I let it set for an hour then wiped the garment with a damp sponge. then let it dry. I kinda regret the test with the wash that rid the old coating and trying something new. I should have done a cold wash, mile soap and stuck with a refresh of the previous coating.
