Geneva Thomas –
I really like the natural recipes included in this book. The book is really cool and fun to read. There are many photos and illustrations that keep me interested while reading.
K K OBrien –
I think that humans are becoming more and more focused on wellness and holistic healthcare and I love that this book expands that opportunity to people caring for their beloved dogs, too. We have an aging dog but it is never too late to learn how you can best take care of your pet! This book covered so many more topics than I would have thought to even consider and it is so insightful for each and everyone! Simple and straightforward, I love the way the info is laid out to both inform you about the topic and then also give you a “solution” or recipe of sorts so that you can take action if so desired!
Sarah Barnes –
I’ll start this by saying I generally don’t believe in holistic medicine. Perhaps for coats/paw issues but definitely not for diet/health issues. This book was full of that kind of thing which means it’s just not for me. I do like that it is written by a veterinarian but I just don’t trust most of what is in this book for use on my pets. It’s not a well-regulated market and it’s not well-researched at all either so it may actually work but I’m not willing to try a lot of this stuff on my pet.
PerdHapley –
This book is really cute and informative, with lots of information about natural food and remedies that can help your pet thrive. I like that the author doesn’t shy away from telling you when traditional medicine is recommended (as with flea and worm treatments), but that you also get a lot of ideas on how to take care of everyday issues with simple, natural things. Love it!
Wesley Roberts –
This is VERY holistic. It’s a little too ‘herbal medicine’ for me as I prefer evidence-based approaches. Some of the recipes also require ingredients that you wouldn’t typically have on hand.
However, if you’re looking to make your dog the equivalent of a lemon, ginger and honey tea when they’re feeling unwell as a soothing comfort, then it could be a good book for you!
It’s relatively informative, but I would only use some of the remedies as supplementary options to whatever my vet recommends.
L1$@70 –
I’ll be honest, after getting the book and reading through it, I don’t think this book is for me. Most of the ingredients are not things you have on hand or will find in a regular grocery store but you could probably find it on Amazon or other health stores.
That being said, this is a very nicely printed, little book. There aren’t a lot of pages to it and does cover a variety of topics from hygiene and health to behavior and illness. There are good quality pictures inside as well.
Flippitti –
This is a cute book. It’s small but it has a ton of useful info, esp on homeopathic ways to care for your pet. I got it for myself as something I can use as a quick reference. But it would also make a great gift for a new dog owner as well. The book has nice illustrations and easy to understand information. The info is short and to the point.

This cute, little book is full of information and natural, holistic recipes for caring for dogs. The layout is attractive and easy to read and/or flip through when looking for something in particular. Some of the recipes are really practical solutions that I can see myself using regularly, like the external and internal parasite cleanses, and the calming essential oil suggestions. Other areas might be helpful if my dog were dealing with something specific; and, in fact, it’s the “Injuries, Pain, and Illness” section of the book that is the largest focus. In the case of certain illnesses, the book indicates when an emergency veterinary visit may be required.
The recipes themselves are simple, but many of them do require some planning ahead as I was not familiar with all of the ingredients, and of those I am familiar with, don’t necessarily have them on hand.
I’ve learned a lot just reading through this guide, and appreciate the accessibility of having it as a reference, as well as integrating more natural care into our routine.
