Body is stainless steel. But the handle is not. It oxidizes and black material gets on your hands when cleaning. Hawkins cut the corners on this maybe to make little bit profit!!

I have been using Hawkins pressure cookers for years together & they have been great but can’t say the same about this one. A pressure cooker is meant to retain pressure & it fails miserably at its key function. I have it for a little less than 2 months. I have used it around 5 times so far, each time with the hope that it will work this time but it failed at every attempt. WORST PRODUCT ..such a waste of my money ..I wish that the return window was open & I could return it..HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED..

It takes time to get used to using this product and the initial hiss it gives out is enough to be a shock, but once you get used to this product it’s great. Learning to fit the lid also takes time, but there’s some good youtube videos and the benefits of this product along with the good price make it worthwhile. The steel is excellent quality and comes with a great recipe book. It’s so good I purchased another in a smaller size.

Hawkins cooker valve broke within couple of months of use.
We bought new Hawkins valve from Amazon & that broke within a month of use.
Rest of the pressure cooker seems to be fine. Very poor quality valve though.

Just received the HSS3T Hawkins 3 Liter Tall Pressure Cooker today. Already tried it out on two test runs and it worked flawlessly. I am writing this review to dilute some of the negative reviews I have read.
The 3 liter ‘tall’ is a good choice if this is your first pressure cooker. It is a great size for small and large meals for 2 people. We started with the 2 liter size but honestly the 3 liter ‘tall’ is more versatile.
As for the negative reviews. I realize that there can be manufacturing defects in any product and a flawed unit is not what a customer paid for. Buy from Amazon direct or any vendor that will accept returns free of charge in case this happens.
Hawkins Pressure Cookers are a unique and well designed piece of equipment. The design of the lid is absolute genius and very safe to use!
“The pot’s edge makes the cooker hard to clean.” It is not hard to clean.
“The safety valve ‘blows out’ making a mess.” Well that is what it is supposed to do when you run out of liquid and/or the interior temperature rises well above the designed 250 F degrees (122 C). Operator error.
Order an extra seal and safety valve to have on hand. The same safety valve fits all Hawkins Pressure Cookers and are easily replaced. The seals are dedicated to the size of the lid.
“The lid does not seal and leaks.” You have to be accurate in centering the lid when closing up the cooker. Practice makes perfect.
“Cannot build pressure – steam leaks at the vent weight.” Remove and rinse the vent weight and check that the vent tube is clear every time the cooker is washed. Check the inside of the vent weight for food particles. There is no way the vent weight and vent tube cannot maintain the 15 psi (103 kPa) pressure as designed.
“The cooker ‘whistles’ too much or is too sensitive to vibrations.” Turn down the heat after the initial blast. A soft ‘hiss’ is all that is needed to maintain pressure.
“Count the number of whistles to time the cooking.” You cannot count the number of whistles to time the cooking. Use a timer.
“Hard to remove the lid without the lid touching the food.” There is too much in the cooker. The pressure cooker should only be 2/3’s full max. Read the instructions.
“Rust.” 18/8 stainless steel is perfectly acceptable for food safe cookware. After washing the cooker, we towel off the pot and lid, put the lid in the pot loose and store it in the cabinet. We have never seen any rust on our cookers.
“Food burns.” Well it is stainless steel, we use alot of cast iron around here. I’ll give that complaint 3 stars. The complaint is justified as the bottom disc is a little small relative to the cooker diameter.
“Inside of pot turns black.” Again, this is a ‘patina’ on the metal. It is not a chemical reaction in the metal. Easily removed with a ‘non-abrasive’ cleanser every now and then.
“Loose handle.” The handle is loose on purpose to assist in centering the lid. It is part of the design.
Well that is about it. Unless you received a unit with obvious manufacturing defects or there has been some damage in shipping, you probably have one of the best made pressure cookers on the market. Enjoy!

Ich besitze schon den selben Topf in der 2 Liter Version und der reicht auch meist für den Singlehaushalt. Der hier hat 3 Liter, hat den selben Durchmesser (Deckel und Gummi passen) ist aber 1/3 höher. Dadurch kann man einen Einsatz zum Reiskochen benutzen.

Und man hat Platz für Gemüse welches beim kochen kleiner wird (z.B. Kraut).
Empfehle ich und würde ich wieder kaufen.

I have been using hawkins aluminum pressure cookers. However have decided to shift for steel ones due to dish washer usage. This steel one looks absolutely sleek.

Like the old one it works like a charm.
I don’t understand what people do to this pot that they blew safety valves in a row or even grenade their kitchen with it…
If it is used as described in the manual all is fine.

Works great just get ready because if you’re not expecting it to go off might scare you. Cooks fast and don’t over fill with water because it will spit it out and might get burned if you’re close to it. The taller the pot the better because to open/close the lid needs to go into the pot at an angle and it hits the food if loaded tall like ribs. Read instructions and you be fine.

Possibly the best Amazon purchase for me this year!
Instant Pot was too big for my small kitchen and heavy for me to schlep on and off the counter. But I still wanted to pressure cook to save money (in energy bills) and save time too. So, I went old-school and bought this Hawkins 3L tall pressure cooker.
There is an invaluable video by a youtuber (search “Hawkins Pressure Cooker Test”) that helped me get comfortable with its operation and to understand this cooker, which works differently than the Presto cooker my mom used when I was growing up.
Unlike like Mom’s, the weight doesn’t jiggle. It releases pressure (“whistle” some call it, but it isn’t a whistle sound) all at once, regularly but otherwise is silent. Like the Instant Pot, there is a slow release and quick release. Slow release continues cooking for a while even after you turn off the heat which is my choice to reduce energy consumption.
Like Mom’s old pressure cooker, it is made heavy. But since it’s small, it is easy to lift to clean and put away. It has an interesting lid. It doesn’t use the locking mechanism like Presto that rubs the gasket. It is an ingenious design really. But it might take a couple or three tries to understand how it fits on. See that video.
You know what else I like a lot? Unlike the Instant Pot, this cooker will last and last and last. Buy a new gasket now and then, possibly a new safety valve, and this literally could last generations. Also since this is made in India where they do a lot of home cooking and energy saving, I know that I’m in good company with lots of others who rely upon this pot.
I’ve cooked beans half a dozen times since I got it and they turn out better than the ones in the can — firm but still tender, and tastier too. Here’s my “recipe” for cooking chickpeas in this cooker:
* 1 cup of dry chickpeas soaked 24 hours in 4 cups of water. Drain water, and rinse chickpeas.
* Put the plumped chickpeas with 2 1/2 cups of fresh water in cooker.
* Safety! Before putting on the cooker lid, take off the weight and make sure you can see through the hole to confirm it is not obstructed. Check the gasket to make sure it doesn’t have any wear and that it is in its grooves. Put back on weight, put on lid at 90 degree angle, bring it so the two handles match up, and then it will almost find the perfect seal spot itself. Lock the handles together.
* Heat on high until the first “whistle.” You might see some foam also be released (that’s normal for beans) but you should not see any steam released around the edges of the lid, only steam and possibly some foam escaping at the weight.
* Count how many whistle releases you get the first couple of minutes. Three or Four per minute is good. If you get more than that, reduce the heat until in that range of releases.
* Cook for 20 minutes, timed from that first pressure release. Turn off heat, allow slow release for 15 minutes to finish up the cooking.
* Safety! Lift up weight (I use a knife — don’t use your hands! It could be very hot) to see that all the pressure has been released, or to release it if it isn’t. After 15 minutes, mine is always fully released.
* Chickpeas are ready to eat. =)
