If you need a high quality scanning tool for your heavy duty truck to trouble shoot and even look at how things are running. This is a great item to have in your mechanics drawer. If you repair, diesel trucks you need this, or if you are a student about to go into that field. Great diesel mechanic graduation gift, or a great upgrade for that mechanic in your life. This comes retail packaged and the screen is color so easy to read. plug it in the port and you are ready to go.

This scan tool is designed and marketed for heavy duty vehicles primarily with diesel engines. It does a great job with this, but is also compatible with most other vehicles, whether diesel or gasoline powered. The main unit consists of a tablet running a specialized version of Android with special communications ports that most tablets don’t have, and is also ruggedized with a solid case and rubberized exterior to withstand the abuse typical of a shop environment. It comes in a hard protective carrying case that also contains a charger for the unit along with adapters for almost any kind of vehicle you could ever want to use it on. A must have for any auto shop looking to scan work on any vehicle built in the modern era.

I like having this bidirectional scanner and it’s certainly a good value compared to all of the big name brands that cost so much. And this one has the software to work with a very wide variety of trucks. The fact that it is bidirectional means that instructions can be sent to the ECM that will provide changes and resets that are not possible with the basic passive scanners. Also it’s providing me with a lot of detailed information that is almost on par with what we see with our much more expensive professional scanner at the shop.
When I got this I was kind of hopeful that it would work on my General Motors pick up truck diesel but the ECM is different for a light duty pickup and even though there is a Detroit diesel under the hood, packaged as a GM labeled diesel, the scanner really isn’t set up to work with GM Duramax diesels in Silverado HDs. I don’t count this against it and I still give it a 5 star rating because it is such a good value and because it does work well with our existing trucks that are mostly Cummins and Caterpillar. And for that job, this scanner is quite good.
