The Koitmy Mechanical Metronome is a classic, no-frills metronome that delivers on its promise of reliable, accurate tempo keeping. Its simple design and sturdy construction make it a good choice for both beginners and seasoned musicians who prefer a traditional approach to tempo practice.

    Pros:

    * **Accurate and reliable:** The mechanical movement ensures consistent tempo, free from the potential for digital glitches or battery issues.
    * **Durable construction:** The metal body and pendulum feel robust and built to last.
    * **Clear and audible clicks:** The sound of the metronome is crisp and distinct, making it easy to follow the beat.
    * **Adjustable tempo range:** Covers a wide range of tempos, from very slow to very fast.
    * **Affordable price:** It’s a budget-friendly option compared to some other mechanical metronomes on the market.

This Metronome is a solid choice for musicians who value simplicity, accuracy, and durability. It’s a reliable tool for practicing and developing a consistent sense of rhythm. However, if you’re looking for a metronome with more advanced features or a quieter operation, you might want to consider a digital option.

This metronome is highly recommended for beginners, classical musicians, and anyone who prefers a traditional approach to tempo practice. It’s also a good option for those who are on a tight budget. However, if you need a more versatile metronome with advanced features, you might want to explore digital options.

This Koitmy Mechanical Solo S-320 Metronome (list price $22.99) seems to be of good quality in construction and materials. It’s easy to operate and so far, accuracy matches my apps. A clear-to-understand manual is provided but I only needed to glance at it to operate everything on the device.

The two things I found least obvious (but are detailed in the manual) were 1) the metronome comes with a plug on the underside that prevents its gears from getting damaged during shipment; this needs to be removed for the metronome to operate. And 2) the pendulum slides behind a “hook” at the top of the device when not in use. This needs to be slipped out to start the metronome.

The Solo S-320 is bare bones, but that’s what I wanted. I find all my app options and settings more distracting than helpful. With a physical metronome, I can stay focused more easily.

The device takes about the same amount of time to get started as my apps. Once the cover is removed, simply wind the device, move the pendulum weight and beat selector to their desired positions, then give the pendulum a nudge. Stopping is as simple as halting the bar. The metronome “dings” on the selected beat and “ticks” out the meter.

Design-wise, I’m a big fan of this metronome’s retro look and color. I have a “Surf Green” Stratocaster and while the metronome’s green color is a little more blue than my guitar, it’s close enough to complement my setup. I realize that won’t matter to most people, but it makes me happy.

I do have concerns about how long the pendulum bar will last as it bends significantly when it’s behind the hook. It bounces back to straight upon release, but the metal is thin, and eventually, I expect it to stop straightening. I’ll update this review if I find longevity is shorter than expected.

Finally, and the main reason I deducted a star—this thing is loud enough that my family can hear it from outside my room and it drowns out my softer playing. I can live with it as I do like the device, but a volume knob would be a vast improvement.

This seems to be a pretty good metronome and the pastel purple color is alright. The instructions were easy to follow and I was able to get the metronome working in 2-3 minutes. The sound is on the loud side, but I don’t see how to change the volume. There may not be a way to do that. The metronome is bigger than I had expected, so I will need to find a table to put beside my music stand to place the metronome on. It’s early on in my use of this item, so I’m not sure yet how durable it is.

A really cool item to have for any musician. Great as a gift. I haven’t measured it against and digital metronomes but I am sure it is close enough. It has a small plastic lock that doesn’t allow it to move which is good for transport in a gig bag, though this is probably best suited to stay in you music room or studio. Highly recommended for any musician in your life, or yourself.

I’m spoiled. I compare everything to the antique wooden mechanical metronome my mother bought used from my piano teacher 40 years ago. I have struggled to find anything even half as nice without absolutely breaking the bank.
My kids tried awful beeping electronic metronomes for school band. I found a small portable mechanical metronome I could toss in a guitar bag. But I still search for a nice at home metronome.

This one doesn’t have the visual appeal of the old wooden case, but it does have some nice features.
The plastic piece inserted in the bottom acts as a stop when not in use.
This metronome has a bell that will ring at adjustable intervals to mark the first beat of each measure, or not at all. I found that at higher speeds with the bell engaged, it took a few measures for the rhythm to even out, but then it ran smoothly.
There is a notch to hold the pendulum in place when the metronome is stopped and a door to cover and protect it for storage.
It is fairly easy to adjust the tempo. It got easier to move the weight on the pendulum with more use.

Overall I’d say this metronome is no heirloom, but it is reasonably priced, functional, easy to operate, has the benefit of not needing batteries, and helps you keep time without all that annoying electronic beeping.
