Great instrument. I’m a beginner and I love it. My cello teacher even said it was a really good instrument, especially for this price.

It arrived as advertised, and was well packed for shipping. The bridge may eventually be a problem. As I was trying to tighten the strings, the low string kept slipping out of the groove. I eventually pulled out my pocket knife and deepened the groove. I may have to get a new bridge at some point. The tuning pegs slip very badly, even after applying peg drops. I may have to pull the strings off and pretty much start over with stringing. I have yet to draw a single note from it. Please keep in mind that I am an absolute beginner. As such, this is a little frustrating, but the price was where I could afford.
Edit: It is now past the time when I would have been able to return this thing. It can’t be tuned. The tuning pegs slip, and I’ve treated them all with peg drops multiple times. The bridge is most definitely a problem. It is not a nice, even curve with notches for the strings. It slopes towards the “C” string, and I had to take a knife to the notch to deepen it enough for the string to stay in place. As it’s gotten closer to tune-able, it’s gotten worse, Yesterday, while once again working with it, the bridge collapsed on me twice. I don’t want an expensive and large item just for decoration in my home. I’m thinking if I wanted to keep it, at this point I would need to take it to a lutier, which will cost more money. I considered giving it to a local middle school, but that would be kind of cruel to start a youngster on an instrument with issues.

Yes,mine did the same thing when I first used it . For me it was a simple fix . Pull the pegs out. Take the resin that comes with it and scrub the peg with it . Put it back in the hole and tune it. It helps the peg stay where you set it.
For a full size cello under $200. I think it is an excellent deal. I’ve owned the $600 cecillio. The Finish is better on those but there’s not that much difference in my opinion. I guess to somebody that knows how to play a cello probably knows the difference . I am a beginner and to save $400 this cello works for me. I think the cello looks nice in person. I’m satisfied with the purchase

Firstly, anytime you can buy a musical instrument for this kind of money, you must realize you are getting what you are paying for. That said, it is possible to get some enjoyment from this entry level cello. I am a musician and normally play bass, both electric and acoustic. I had an upright 3/4 for years. I am proficient at plucking but the bow is a whole new world. I had the chance to mess with a cello years ago which was horrifically out of tune so I bass tuned it EADG and had a fun time. When I decided to get to know the cello for real I wasn’t going to spend a ton of money on it for sure. Good, broken-in cellos can go for thousands of dollars. I saw one on here for 28K!

What I want to tell you is that you can have some fun with this instrument if you realize it’s not going to happen right out of the box. (it does come packaged very securely in foam)

Once you put it together, it’s tough to tune because the pegs slip very easily. Cellos are typically tuned CGDA, perfect fifths. Get yourself some peg lock or actually chalk can be used. The rosin they give you is small. Mine was ridiculously hard so grab some bow rosin too. To get this thing sounding like a cello should, some mods to the bridge may be needed. They recommend taking it to a reputable luthier for that, though I’ve read on here that some technicians won’t touch this thing.. mine is not too bad, a small file and sanding of the stanchions did the trick.. Have fun!

The worst thing I can say about the cello is the small circular rosin included is challenging for a beginner to use well. Which is to say, it sounds good (for a beginner), it holds up and everything functions fine. The tuning is a little tough to keep consistent (the large black knobs in the head) but I have seen the same with expensive cellos too. The bottom fine tuners near the bridge work fine. I got the yellowish color, which isn’t as pleasing to look at. The tone — if we are being picky — doesn’t exactly sing, but an experienced player can certainly coax out a decent performance from this capable instrument. The box arrived with a hole but the actual instrument itself was well preserved and unharmed.

I purchased the Ktaxon Full-Size Beginner Cello 4/4 Acoustic Cello Set with Portable Bag, Bow, and Rosin on January 1, 2024, with high hopes of starting my cello journey. However, my experience with this product has been nothing short of disappointing.

The most glaring issue with this cello is its inability to hold tuning. No matter how carefully I tune it or how many adjustments I make, it loses its tuning within minutes of playing. This constant need for retuning makes practicing an exercise in frustration rather than an enjoyable experience.

To alleviate the problem, I even purchased additional tuning accessories, but to no avail. The cello continues to exhibit the same persistent tuning issues, rendering it practically unusable for any serious practice or performance.

Furthermore, the overall quality of the instrument leaves much to be desired. The construction feels flimsy, and the sound produced is lackluster at best. It’s clear that corners were cut in the manufacturing process, resulting in a subpar instrument that fails to meet even the most basic expectations.

Overall, I cannot recommend the Ktaxon Full-Size Beginner Cello to anyone looking to start their cello journey. The constant tuning issues and poor quality make it a frustrating and ultimately disappointing investment. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a reliable instrument.
