As with the Legere Signature Series I use for my tenor saxophone, this reed worked great right out of the box. I just purchased an old clarinet and never had a lesson, but was able to get a good, strong tone right away. The synthetics are great because they are sturdy and consistent, and impervious to humidity changes!
Important: Use the comparison chart on Legere’s site before selecting a reed strength. They play as stronger than their numbers. Example: a 2.0 reed will feel closer to a 2.5 cane reed. Just search “Legere reed chart”.

El producto es genial, debemos tener en cuenta que una caña de plastico es un buen auxiliar a todos aquellos problemas que las cañas de bambú suelen tener, sin embargo, debemos considerar que las cañas de plástico tienen una resistencia o fuerza diferentes a una caña común, su equivalencia puede encontrarse en cualquier parte de internet, por ejemplo no es lo mismo una caña del 3 vandoren, a una 3 leguere, signature o classic, en todos los casos es diferente la resistencia.
Para evitar problemas después de realizar la combra, debes considerar ciertos puntos importantes para elegir bien la caña que a ti te va a funcionar.
1°- Debes considerar que boquilla y cañas usas al momento de estudiar o presentar algún concertino u concierto; con esto quiero decirte que debes conocer a profundidad el tipo de caña que usas y si esa caña es compatible con tu boquilla, no puedes usar una caña del 2.5 en una boquilla como la “Vandoren M30”, o una caña del 3.5 en una boquilla “B4013” puesto que en ambos casos siempre tendrás problemas de resistencia, por eso; debes tomar apuntes de tu caña y boquilla y, si en ese caso te sientes cómodo, dejarlo así, si quieres cambiar por algúna razón de incomodidad o inconformidad, considera el punto en el que estas como el punto intermedio.
Una vez considerado lo anterior, conviene revisar en internet una tabla comparativa entre la linea “Leguere” y “Vandoren” o “Rico” o el tipo de cañas que sueles usar para tu estudio, una vez que tomes de referencia que caña te conviene más, es momento de elegír cual caña comprar.
Por ejemplo, una caña del 3.0 de “Leguere – signature” es un poco más dura que una caña del 3.0 de “vandoren”, por eso la importancia de realizar un chequeo de tu uso ya que así podrás determinar que te conviene comprar y que se adapta mejor a tus condiciones.

This is worth having in your clarinet case, in the event that your regular reeds aren’t sounding that great. It’s actually decent sounding enough to play at a gig or rehearsal. This is a great reed to keep on your clarinet if you are teaching all day, and you don’t want to keep rewetting the reed. I don’t feel like I can get the same flexibility of sound I can get with a good cane reed, but otherwise, it does the job.
The 3.75 was a little too heavy for me, so I sent it to Legere in Canada with a dollar for them to send me 3.5. A couple of weeks later, I got the 3.5 in the mail, and it works fine. Instructions are on Legere’s website if you need to make an exchange like I did.
The 3.5 strength seems to be generally comparable to a Vandoren V12 3.5. The 3.75 felt more like a 4 to me, but I’m not an expert on these strengths since I use custom reeds now.
These ARE an improvement on the regular Legere reeds.
Free Bird of Paradise –
Signature (not Euro) is equivalent in feel of hardness to any of my clean sounding cane reeds of equal strength (Vandoren varieties of 3.5+, Gonzales FOF 3.75). Signature (not Euro) is also the same size/shape/ length so it fits all my ligatures well. Not to mention, it sounds great, is easy to control and I would add it probably takes some of the bite/shrill/overtone off of some notes perhaps this means it plays darker or with less timbre. I am not quite certain about all those tech terms yet. Anywho, Signature EUROPEAN is not equivalent in strength or size/shape to my cane reeds. I ordered 3.75 European Signature and it is wider than cane, shorter than cane, plays more freely (similar feel to my best 3.0 reed). The European 3.75 was like a wild stallion out of the gate. I found that it played very loud easily but you can also play very softly! Just take control of your wind. The Euro played all ranges like a hard reed but blows freely like a soft reed. As for intonation of all reeds … I won’t comment. B/c without of secure embouchure its hard to tell. I think I’m getting solid on my embouchure but I find many variances between all my cane reeds. I’m playing this reed on an M13 lyre profile 88 with a vandoren M/O ligature. Happy experimenting! Playing is a freedom and a joy!!

Très bonne réponse, bonne projection et beau son. Avis également très favorable d’un ami professeur de clarinette.
Pas plus de problème de condensation qu’avec une anche classique. Agréable en bouche, prête instantanément, n’a pas besoin d’être humidifié avant de jouer.
Assez réticente avant d’essayer (je craignais l’effet “criard”), je l’ai adoptée immédiatement.
A voir, la durée de vie, mais très certainement plus longue qu’une anche canne (qui pour certaines ne duraient qu’une semaine avant d’être essoufflées).

These reeds sounds great and last a long time. I’ve done blind performance tests with several friends and family members and no one was able to tell the difference in my sound when comparing the Legere to wooden Ricos. Many professional musicians now play on them, including my local favorite Ricardo Morales, principal clarinetist for The Philadelphia Orchestra, and members of both the Berlin and Vienna Orchestras.
I’ve been playing on Legeres for about four or five years in my local community concert bands. They are great for the holiday season when the air is dry, because I never worry about my reed drying out.
Once you find the strength you prefer, consider purchasing several because stock sometimes run low.
The strength you play on is different from wooden reeds, so look for a conversion chart on-line to help with your decision. I play on a 3.5 Rico reed, but for Legere 2.25 is a perfect fit (some of my friends prefer the Legere 2.5, but I prefer less resistance. I can play on the 2.5 but it takes more effort than I want to exert and I get a great sound on the 2.25.) A quick internet search led me to several websites with the Legere conversion chart. Take the plunge! You won’t regret the relatively small investment in money when you consider how much time and aggravation you will save in the long run.

Great, even response, easy and clean articulation. Plays better straight out of the package than 95% of broken-in and balanced cane reeds. The sound they produce is resonant and has that wonderful ‘ping’ to it but the tone doesn’t have the same complexity and depth as a good cane reed. They do play a bit on the bright side and are a bit finicky when it comes to mouthpiece placement so be sure to play around with that and find the sweet spot. I haven’t noticed the same lack of loud dynamics that other reviewers have mentioned and given how they play bright, the sound is likely to project better anyway. So, while I think I prefer the complexity and nuance of sound that cane has, having reeds that play (almost) perfectly every time is a trade off worth making.
One thing I found is that the mouthpiece you use makes a huge difference. Richard Hawkins designs his mouthpieces to play with Legere reeds and the two ‘B’ facing mouthpieces of his I have play significantly better than all of my other mouthpieces with these Legeres.

I used to play on a Legere 2.5 strength many years ago, but my embouchure got weak from many years of not playing the clarinet. I recently ordered a 2.0 strength Legere, and it did not disappoint. It did its intended job of allowing me to get back into playing right away. Both my old and new Legere reeds are extremely stable in maintaining their tone quality and performance.
