I don’t know a lot about projectors but I know a burnt out pixel when I see one. After starting up the PH550 only four times a white spot appeared on the bottom right of the display. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal but where I’m at it took over a month for it to arrive, so in order for me to replace it it would take two months for the new one to arrive.
When it doesn’t have a burnt out pixel it’s great. There are tons of ways to connect to it and it’s nearly small enough to fit in a pocket (large pocket). The picture quality could always be better but it’s still good. It always helps to have better quality videos considering the bigger the picture you make it the worse the quality it will get.
You can connect a hard drive, laptop, tablet, phone or even to a TV cable all while Bluetooth is used to connect to any Bluetooth sound system you may have. It does have its own speaker but of course any speaker you have will be better because it’s not built for it’s own sound system. The connectivity that’s available is great for nearly any situation.
The internal fan is a little loud but not loud enough to wash out the audio from whatever you may be watching.
The battery life is quite low unless you turn power save setting’s to max which gives you about 2 1/2 hours or a little less.
The display automatically adjusts depending on the tilt of the projector which is great if you’re trying to project over something or you don’t have the best place to position the projector.
I will most likely be returning it for a replacement if possible. (Update: LG fixed it up for me and sent it back a couple weeks after this review. The thing is still going strong.)

Looks really nice. Picture quality could be better but still no complaints. Little pricey but is lg so my home projector is lg and im very pleased so I decided to go with lg again. Build quality is very good. I like the included case. Battery around 2 hours and depending what is plugged in. ( if u use the usb port for power for fire tv or some other streaming devices the battery life shortens )

We were looking for a portable projector that we could use instead of a flatscreen TV for the family room that would allow for occasional game playing, movie watching, and that was both portable yet rugged so we could take it outside for movie nights. This is perfect for all of our needs! Excellent picture quality, a straightforward LG interface just like our TV, and simple integration with our portable Bluetooth speakers. Solid battery life, compact, and exactly what we were looking for at a reasonable price.

This projector even being a few years is old is excellent. Works with every digital device I own and produces a great picture quality. Very small and portable and simple to set up and use. Being able to carry it around and work without a power outlet is also a big plus. Can connect via wireless smart view from Android Devices. I can project from my phone or computer with no problems or lagging. The speaker does a good job, not the loudest for a big room or areas with ambient noise. The projector easily connects via bluetooth or aux cable to any speaker set.

We ordered the ViewSonic M1 and the LG PH550 to see which one would better fit our needs. We ended up choosing the LG.
The LG is a nice portable size that fits fine in the hand. It has decent sound, but you will likely want to connect to a better speaker if sound is important to your needs. The stand is a tiny little leg that doesn’t really help too much, I would recommend buying a little projector or camera stand instead. So why did we choose the LG instead of the M1 if it is $100 cheaper and has better speakers and better stand? Because the picture brightness and clarity was amazing for such a little projector and while we could make up for lower quality sound with a separate speaker solution, we couldn’t make up for lower quality video. Now, it doesn’t have that great of a short throw, so don’t expect it to fill a big space from close up, but in spite of all those critiques, the picture was so good we had to pick the LG. Is it perfect? No. But it meets our needs very well. Making out fine details like small words was easy and the picture just popped. However, don’t expect it to be as stunning in a brightly lit room. It still requires some shadow to work effectively.
I was able to wirelessly stream Youtube and Netflix from my Samsung S9+, while the projector was also connected to a bluetooth speaker with no issues. iPhones require a wired HDMI connection, which worked effortlessly.
We are very happy with it and will update if anything changes.

Exactly as advertised. Great projector for home use. Clear picture, quite fan, and adaptable for various devices. Loving it.

i did a lot of research before buying this, but it’s my first projector, and i’m not using a screen. i didn’t want to spend more than 500, and would have stretched to 600, including for refurbished if it was a good deal, but i felt this was the best match for me, particularly since i wanted something easy to move around and ideally able to connect wirelessly. since you can’t replace the lenses on these smaller projectors (and none of the regular sized projectors i found have native wireless capability), lamp life was also important. this checked all the boxes, particularly since it can work on both battery as well as plugged in.
the major thing that concerned me was that many reviews stated it was too dim. first out of the box, and in a dark room it is more than light enough on super saver mode (which is the dimmest). tried it in a room with both curtains and blinds (but not blackout by any means) in daylight, and it was still ok in super saver, but certainly bright enough in full bright mode, projecting around 6 feet away (the closer it is, the brighter but smaller it is. i still got something like a 5 foot diagonal sized picture.
note that i haven’t ever projected from more than 10 feet away, but at 10 feet, picture is still good. i imagine you’d get better quality picture and better brightness if you had a screen, but for me, it does quite well as is.
i’m worried that the nature of the bulb being LED, that this may be unusable in about 5-7 years (as LED gets dimmer with more use), but i suppose it won’t be a bad run for $400.
