“Nature Hike” vs Hyperlight”

Okay the TRUTH!!! I’ve owned the “Naturehike” backpack for 2 years and have used it on SEVERAL trips. Today (a year later) I “gave in” to the hype and I went to buy a “Hyperlight unbound 40L pack” for 369$ at the store. I didn’t care about money anymore and just wanted the best pack. I tried on the 349.00$ “Hyperlight Unbound” then went home and put the 100.00$ “Naturehike” backpack back on to compare the two packs. Here’s how it went…
Comfort:
After trying on the “Hyperlight Unbound” I came home and put MY “Naturehike” backpack back on “ Fully Loaded. IT WAS WAY MORE COMFORTABLE than the “HYPERLIGHT Unbound!!!!” The “Hyperlight Unbound” shoulder straps were too thin (Had almost no padding) on shoulders compared to the “Naturehike.” Also the sternum strap on the “Naturehike” is elastic to allow your chest to expand and contract for easy breathing when it comes to those hills. The “Hyperlight Unbound” sternum strap was solid, rigid and did not expand at all. Also the tension straps were much easier to adjust for comfort on the “Naturehike”. The Chinese kicked the cottage companies butts on this pack.
Cons:
The only con I have with the NatureHike is the water bottle holder on the shoulder strap. It’s up high for some weird reason. Still works well for those smaller water bottles. This is easily fixed by buying an aftermarket one and strapping it on there.
Side note:
(I know and understand that “ZPacks and Hyperlight” charge more for their gear due to the packs being designed by true backpackers. They also need to pay higher wages to the workers for their skill so they can make a “living wage” to make backpacks. However, I’d love to make a living wage doing fun things also. That’s just not my reality. I actually have to WORK HARD to make a well living wage not have fun making backpacks all day. Gear is expensive hands down. However, if you understand the science behind what you buy and how it works then you can save yourself lots of money and still be an effective ultralight backpacker.
Features: The “Naturehike” has basically the same exact features as the “HYPERLIGHT Unbound” and “ZPacks Arch Haul” except its not made of full Dyneema. After getting caught in a down pour on several occasions with this pack it’s pretty darn water resistant even without the rain cover. (IT ALSO COMES WITH A RAIN COVER!!) Even with a Dyneema backpack you still need a rain cover and pack liner sooooo…
Don’t listen to the haters. This pack is BETTER than the “ZPacks Arch Haul” and “Hyperlight UnBound.” (Which are all the BASICALLY the same darn pack.) Just buy an aftermarket bottle holder for the strap and your good to go.

Bought for husband thru hike. Lightweight, durable, plenty of pockets, held up in rain. It’s roomy. Price was awesome compared to other ultra/lightweight packs on the market. Straps were good quality. It worked out well for long distance hike. Dried super quick. He carried tent and stove plus all his personal gear with plenty of room to spare. I carried all our food but he definitely could have fit his own food. Definitely recommend

I’ve read the reviews and watched a ton of videos critiquing this pack, but had to buy one to check it out. I am very impressed so far. There is no comparison at the price point given the excessive features and versatility of this pack. I am a hiker who hits the AT in the spring for about 100 miles per year and this will be a great pack for that. I own an Osprey that is a lot heavier but a great pack and a Granite Gear that is okay, but pretty flimsy for me. My initial impression once I put some weight in is that this pack is going to be perfect for me. It feels good on my back and shoulders and the waist belt offers multiple adjustments to ensure weight is carried on the hips. The belt pockets are kinda small, but I have found I use them for consumable food bars and not my phone or larger items. The appearance is similar to packs in the 300+ range and other than nylon vs dyneema, I can’t see why the performance will be too different. If it is I’ll come back and post.
Update after using this pack locally for 7 months or so … The chest strap is too low on the chest. It’s not adjustable so I am likely going to have to clip it off and replace it with an aftermarket version. The pack still carries well and has held up.

I don’t think this is actually 65L, it’s pretty slim and I could not fit my bear can inside (sideways), which makes this really not usable for my backpacking in bear country. However, it’s a really well made bag & feels nice, I plan to use it for traveling and backpacking in areas where bear cans aren’t required. It’s definitely an excellent alternative to the expensive hyperlite stuff.

Although this possess good features, when it comes down to Ergonomics , the science of wearability, it fails miserably. The shoulder straps are sewn so close together that it barely fits my grandsons neck . The pain and suffering that thru hikers experience comes more from poor fitting equipment and less from miles walked. Chinese knock-offs are flooding this sport, enticed by cheep pricing and devoid of functionality. Trust me and all the dollars Ive wasted on knock-offs, if it involves touching your body, spend the money for quality gear or you will be buying it twice. There is an incredible cottage industry in the states composed of gear that genuine hikers toil over to correct gear imperfections realized from first hand experience. Not even the very best, extensive researched gear fits everyone but your will be further ahead. Good luck !

I bought a Zpack arc haul. And end up using this more. It’s more comfortable. Still lightweight. Not sure how waterproof it is, I use a pack liner. Good pack.

Based off of the measurements given, 10.2×7.0×24 inches, I was prepared to have to figure something out for my bear canister, but this bag is clearly bigger than it says it is!!
My UDAP No-Fed-Bear canister (8×8×10 inches) fits HORIZONTALLY in the pack!!
I will have to take this out to get a real feel for the bag, and might update the review.
I only gave 4 stars because the straps aren’t adjustable up/down, so it doesn’t fit my torso at all, but I plan to fix that.
