So easy to set up this product. We use it for our security cameras that are a bit too far away from the main router. The cameras work great now with better live stream picture.

I have been using an EAX12 wifi extender of Netgear for five weeks for a wired device. For about the first three weeks, there were no issues of dropping connections with a wifi router. Then it gradually began getting disconnected for no reasons, with its frequency of disconnection getting more frequent as time went by until one day the wifi router blocked the connection, indicating that the EAX12 extender became ‘suspicious rogue device’.
Just like anybody confronting this, I reset the extender and tried to go through the Nighthawk mobile app on my cellphone to re-establish the connection. To my surprise, the mobile app displayed a message in the middle of going through the connection pages, which says I have to agree to the Netgear running analytics on the extender. It alse says the Netgear will install ‘Armor’ as subscription service for the extender, which I could opt out later. I had no prior knowledge about the analytics being run on the extender and the subscription service that will charge me without my consent. I have no idea what the hack ‘Armor’ is.
Taking together the gradually increased frequency of disconnections of the extender connected to the firewalled wifi router and the message that the Netgear runs analytics, I kind of suspect that signals incoming to and outgoing from the extender got blocked by the firewall of the wifi router, disconnecting the extender from the wifi router. Eventually the wifi router declared that the extender became a suspicious rogue device.
This is an absolutely not acceptable and legally indefensible practice on the part of the Netgear. The Netgear should have informed consumers what they do on the analytics, how they do it, what information they pull out from the extender, and how they store the data. How could I trust that the extender does not retrieve critically important personal information from my personal network at home? HELLOW?
And the subscription service, ‘Armor’. I did not sign on the subscription service at the time I purchased the extender.
Anyone who is serious about purchasing Netgear extenders (or wifi devices in general) should scrutinize what they do.

I have this extender out in my garden shed which is 100+ feet from the router. It works like it’s right next to the router. I stream my Amazon Dot from it as well as my Temperature from Thermostats I have.

This product works well once set up. The instructions encourage the user to download an app and use that to install the extender. The app did not work and kept trying to get me to log in but then not accept my password. I then went old school and installed through my web browser, which worked fine. If you buy this, skip the app.

I found that the NETGEAR Mesh Wifi extender was very easy to install following the installation instructions which includes downloading the Nighthawk application to my phone. Once I installed it, my wifi signal strength and available bandwidth increase dramatically to the back corner of my house where my home office is located. It connected to the new ADTRAN 4820 router provided by my ISP. I am happy with the performance.

I have bought 4 of these so far, and 2 I gave away. I’ve been using IPERF3 for testing with my pair and decided I wanted to know exactly how much speed I was getting from these. When using just 1 as an AP, I got upwards for 180Mbps. The band steering features seem to be working well, and other 802.11ax features, as I disabled the 2.4Ghz interface and noticed a drop in speed by about 20Mbps. In a test with two extenders forming a wireless bridge, one in AP mode, the other in mesh mode, I noticed slightly higher speeds, as much as 210Mbps (with both laptops wired in to the ethernet ports). These devices work really well in this configuration, which is surprising as both of my laptops have Intel AX201 wifi cards. I was expecting the 1 AP configuration to provide more throughput. The worst configuration was using both in the mesh mode with the main router being a Ubiquiti AP that I have no management access to. In this configuration I was receiving about 40 to 60 Mbps. I believe the Ubiquiti might only support 802.11ac in my test.
The downsides are that the web configuration is slow, there’s no access for SNMP (as this would be excellent for more network insight), and without proper mesh intelligence the performance could (emphasis on could) be bad for an uninformed consumer. However, the web configuration is really well thought out and guides most general use cases to an optimal solution. I’d recommend the Netgear EAX12 for most home and business installations as I’m rather happy with buying my set.
If you lose network access when trying to connect to these devices, try accessing the webpage through IPv6 with the device’s built in MAC address. Try opening [ipv6address]/list_extender_device.htm in your web browser (with the square brackets) to see the device. There are websites that convert MAC addresses to IPv6 addresses which should help you get access to the device.

I use this to extend my 5Ghz wireless network to my older ethernet devices, like my PS2 and PS3. Even though it only has 1 gigabit ethernet port, I simply connect it to another gigabit switch and then connect all my ethernet devices to that. My phat PS3 has terrible wifi range and ethernet is the only way to really use it for any internet connectivity.

so quick and easy to set up via the app – simple to install, my Foxtel box did not pick it up, so rebooted Foxtel and it picked it up instantly 🙂 the household was good to go in about 10 minutes.

Device setup easy and works very well. That’s the good news. The bad news is we discovered it emits a loud high frequency sound that can effect animals near by. We have a Chihuahua that became very restless and showing signs of distress when we plugged the unit in. This went on until we unplugged the unit and he became relaxed again. I love Netgear’s devices but I’m afraid I can’t use this one as it bothered him too much so anyone who has a pet and purchases this unit, should at the very least, monitor their pet to see if it effects them in any way. Sorry..
