This is the second PetSafe collar I have bought for my German Shepherd that is around 80Lbs. He is a year and a half old and after moving into a new house without a fenced yard or invisible fence yet, thought it would be good training. The first PetSafe collar I had was the Elite. The only reason I am on to my second is because I misplaced the first one, and later found it under the dog blanket in my car. I loved the first version of this collar I had prior, but after buying the updated newer version I gave the older one to a family member for her golden retriever. When I bought this one in October of 2017 I thought it looked sleek and less bulky than the prior version. When I opened the packaging, the collar felt cheap. I figured it was a good brand, so I’m sure it would hold up and prove me wrong. The prongs did seem a little smaller, and my dog has thick fur around his neck, the shock option didn’t seem to really do anything unless it was at the highest setting and even that was a light shock. He’s a smart dog, and shocking is never my first option and I hardly ever had to shock him. The warning beeps seemed to work best for him anyway. In June I went to unplug the collar from the charger and noticed that the small black portion on the charger had cracked and broke off. Leaving the small metal prong like pieces exposed. I tried to get the black piece out and see if I could reattach it somehow, but it was lodged inside the collar charging spot. It still managed to hold a charge, but I had to carefully hold the charger and make sure it didn’t move at all. If it moved it would fall right out. Also, the little rubber covers that are supposed to cover the charging spots on the collar and remote never stay on. They break right off, So I wouldn’t trust this for being waterproof, if you have a dog that loves the water. Anyway, Fast forward to a month later and the collar got warm and is now completely fried. I haven’t even had this collar a year!! I stuck with the PetSafe brand because the reviews were good, it had the range I wanted, and the prior collar was made a lot better. This was very cheaply made for the cost of this collar and I’m very disappointed!!! I would have purchased the protection plan, but prior reviews said it wasn’t worth it and stuff like this wouldn’t be covered anyway. So, I am now on my third collar and decided to do away with PetSafe. I’m trying the PetPat collar. It feels like it’s made a lot better, and though it may not have the highest range I wanted, So far, it’s wonderful. It even has a vibration setting and the rubber coverings on the charging spots are thicker and almost suction on, made to keep water out. And best part, it was only $50!! So, in conclusion, if you want to spend a lot of money on a poorly made collar, this is for you. I wish I never would have bought this collar, such a waste of money!!

FINALLY – I have found the one. I am embarrassed to announce how many collars I have been through, looking for the perfect one – more than 5. I have a 2 year old dachshund, a 15 lb. little guy. It’s in his nature to run, and when he reached 6 months, it became apparent that his habit of exploring across the street and into our woods, was going to need to be tamed or else he might get badly hurt, or worse – every dog parents’ worst nightmare. He just turned 2, and it took me until now, many electric collars later, to find exactly what I have been searching for, for a year and a half. Many receivers that I have tried out are WAY to big – that has been my biggest pet peeve, as my dog is so small. This collar / receiver is flush to the neck, the smallest I have seen, AND it works just as the ad claims. I bought the Lite – 300 yd. version as I live on a lot of land, and I am SO THRILLED! I have bought small receivers before where they claimed to work as far away from the remote as 1000 feet, and they only worked 20 feet. So, I was very worried this may be the same case, but FINALLY, it was not. This small receiver works as far as it says it should. The waterproof feature is crucial for safety – and I am so impressed that the remote is also waterproof. The battery life is amazing and the product just overall really pleases me. Worth the money, and I wish I had come across it sooner. Also, I have found with my little dog, that all that is necessary when it comes to using the functions on the remote collar, is the tone and vibrate function. Many times that is all you need to get their attention, and as mentioned before, electric collar training has saved my boy’s life! Highly recommend, do not be a skeptic! Also always try the functionality of the collar out on yourself first. I placed a single finger across the prongs and tested the vibrate mode, and all 8 levels of the shock available on the Lite version of the receiver. I am very happy with my purchase, and I am sure my little guy is please with not having a giant, clunky, receiver hanging from his neck. The Lite version is very appropriate for small dogs who have a tendency to wander!

UPDATE: I’d recommend not getting the “Lite” version and just getting the regular version. The shock and vibrate isn’t strong enough for my 15 lb. dachshund. Thankfully he listens to the “tone” feature.

Our first two Goldens just needed brief corrections to stop behavioral problems; a few corrections and the collar was no longer needed – the third (our current) Golden is virtually untrainable and after 3 years the original collar wouldn’t hold a charge. Unfortunately we need the collar on our current Golden just to gain some degree of control in the yard and when we’re out for walks. The collar works and has good range – it’s just ineffective on this current Golden.

Simple to use, recharge, and has been a great aid that allows me to let my border collie be off leash and when needed I can recall him quickly without any painful stimulation. Has held up well in wet conditions too.

dunno if it’s my application or not, but i’ll make the caveat right off the bat that i may have it too loose. i didn’t want to have the prongs rubbing hard into the dog’s neck and causing irritation/skin wounds, so i put it on to what i thought was an appropriate tightness. had a local trainer (professional) evaluate and she made an adjustment to tighten it a little. two things i learned – don’t have the prongs immediate on top (cervical spine area) and don’t have the prongs straight below (area of least contact). so we find ourselves always having to readjust the collar to the correct location as he scratches at it. we have seen mixed results – sometimes he’ll verbally react to a signal, other times it doesn’t seem to faze him… it does work, but the desired results are still “under construction”. also, i have not tested the range, so i have no input on that aspect…

My dog is so stubborn and strong willed that a firm handling gets him riled up and he wants to rough house play after you try and tell him no etc.. So this has improved our communication with each other exponentially as he now knows to listen when I speak and recall him. I use the tone button and he knows (after a day or 2 of training) that he’s to listen and no further action is required in terms of discipline. He is rewarded for making the right decision now after the tone button.

I have 2 dogs that set each other off. They charge and chase any fast moving thing which has made off leash walks a big challenge. Having the remote has *significantly* improved their behaviour and helps keep me calmer and feeling more in control when they act up.
The location off the buttons isn’t totally intuitive. Button to switch dogs is on the right hand side, and stim button is on the top. Sometimes I end up correcting the wrong dog, but I’m getting better.

By far the best static collar we have purchased! We have 3 collars: the static collar for the containment system, the static bark collar and now this one! It works amazing on our 6 years old 50lb female boxer (new to use 9 months ago.)
Level 3 is the highest we have had to use on her. Now she just hears the tone and she stops what she is doing. We have used it for containment purposes, bark control, controlling her on walks and bad behaviour towards other dogs, for introducing her to other dogs, for control over aggression towards my parents cats (she had never seen a cat before.) She had the kill look in her eye when she sees them but now with the collar she completely ignores them. By far the best money we have spent on a vibrate/tone/static collar! Well worth the money! Would buy again in a heart beat!
