I have bought every trumpet Rowell makes. They’re definitely unique and fun to play.
This 3 button F single french horn sounds rather “light” when we first got it. (Comparing it to a idk a million year old school Yamaha completely covered with dents each with several of their own dents) somehow the Rowell horn does not have the gravitas of the great grandpa horn.
Several hours later, several mouthpieces later, we seem to have come to the conclusion that we actually like the sound this horn makes. The original feeling that this is a lesser horn might have been its $400.00 price point and that it is fairly light compared to the Yamaha (also f single) but in reality the new horn is really easier to play and sounds no less.
We are however very disappointed to find a quarter sized dent very near the bell. There’s so much more tubing on the French horn than trumpet that we didn’t even see all the tubes for several hours.
Will exchange for an undented one.
