If your looking for a case to hold Mics/DI’s and clips and is very portable this is for you. High quality foam. The case isn’t as thick as pelican cases, but still seems very durable.

The older version of this case is awesome the newer version without the soft foam sucks. mics like 57s arent tall enough to get your fingers on and are impossible to get out unless you turn the case upside down or insert foam or something else in that slot to make it work. if im touring with different bands using different mic packages it sucks to change over because of this. the harder foam isnt as friendly and in my opinion doesn’t offer the same level of protection. also the side area is not foamed so larger mics in bags, DI Boxes, or other accessories just get thrown around. again the older design had soft foam and the accessory side had foam and everything was a lot better secured. I hate this design.

This case is extremely well made. The handle is very nice and locks in and out. If you have longer mics you will need to retrofit them a bit. I use a drill bit to remove the lower foam and they fit right in. My shorter Shure mics fit in with no retrofitting. Since most people do not need 24 mic holders, I used a carving knife to make another compartment. It works like a charm. Just custom cut and size hole you need. Great Case!

I originally did not want an Injection molded case. But after seeing the price and capacity of this case decided to give it a shot. Holds most of my mics great, The punchouts in the foam are big enough to hold a D6 without stretching or tearing. Short small diaphragm condensers will sink to the bottom though which makes them hard to get out. The side cut out holds my half dozen DI’s i like to carry and a random assortment of Clips and hardware so im happy there. Overall i would say this is the best Case for the money if you need the large 24 mic capacity. I will still buy one smaller ATA style case So that i can move mics into that for smaller shows.

Construction is great, etc. etc. However, except for a ball mic (SM58) you will need to modify the depth of the hole or the shape of the upper cutout. A common 57, for instance, drops down so you need needle nose pliers to extract it. A KM-84 gets completely lost in the abyss. They should definitely include some cylindrical foam blanks that could be cut and inserted in the hole to raise the floor. Of course, this means you have to label the holes somehow to get everything back where it belongs.
Also, it’s always been my habit to keep the clip with the mic. That is not possible with this rig unless you really extensively modify the cutouts and even then it would be messy. A 421? forget it. All the clips in your collection are stored in the open side compartment forcing you to fish around every time you pull a mic for the appropriate clip. Not ideal. Still better than carrying around a caseload of the original mic cases, i suppose.
My dad used to say occasionally “the guy that designed that thing never used it!” True here, pop!

Excellent case, everyone who has seen it at gigs falls in love.

I put some gaff down each strip with model numbers so at the end of a gig inventory is nearly instant.

If I’m missing an M80, you clearly see an empty hole.

Certain mic’s are too long for this (C1000 for example) but I knew this going in.

If it broke, I’d buy another in a heart beat, but it’s built well so I’m sure I”ll have this for a long time.

This case is built very well. It’s a big case but if you have a lot of standard shaped mics they will most definitely be protected. The only drawback I see so far is when I put my an SM57 in one of the mic slots it disappears down into the foam. I had to close the lid on the case, turn it upside down a whack the back of the case to push the mic up enough in the hole to pull it out. Mics like the SM58 or AKG D5 don’t have this problem due to the ball head shape. SM81s fit length wise but will rattle around because of their narrow shape. Mics like my Sennheiser e906 won’t fit into the slots because of the square share of the mic head. I will be picking up some foam to add to the bottom of the slots I keep my SM57s in and perhaps some thin fabric to wrap around the SM81s. For the odd shaped ones they’ll stay in their pouches in the area of the case that doesn’t have foam. Mics come in so many different shapes and sizes it would be impossible for SKB to accommodate all the shapes but this case gets most of the ones I use for stage and keeps them super secure. I like it.
