I fly about 3 times a year with my PRS SE custom semi-hollow (the older flat-top version with the slash sound-hole, circa 2007). I always go Southwest in the A boarding group, and I have never had a problem finding a spot in the overhead bins. However, my guitar was practically naked in the original PRS SE gig bag. Twice I watched people try to jam their roll-aboard ON TOP of my guitar, ignoring my pleas to stop. Part of the problem is a gig bag is too flat, so it’s hard for shorter people to see it from below after it gets stowed. So I looked far and wide on Amazon for a lightweight semi-rigid case and this SKB was the best match, and somebody said their PRS SE fit inside. Problem solved! Have flown twice with it now, no issues, people can see it and even if somebody were to try squeezing something on top I’m confident the guitar would be protected. This SKB case is LIGHT but the sides are RIGID, which is what I wanted. The main zipper feels a little fragile, so be careful going around the curves, don’t just rip it at full speed/strength. The fit is not perfect for my PRS SE, but close enough — there is a little gap (1/2”?) under the heel, but I just stuff a rag under there for now, and the sides and bottom fit snugly and the neck is supported.

UPDATE 5/24: I have upgraded to a PRS S2 Vela semi-hollow, and got it to fit nicely after some modifications. The lower bout on the Vela is a little too wide. I marked the new boundary with masking tape, then used a razor utility knife to cut through the furry fabric and remove about 1/2″ thick strip of rigid EPS foam about 5″ long (from the handle side, not the hinge side). I also removed another 1/2″ thick strip about 2″ long from the inside of the upper horn cutout. I peeled the foam off the fabric back, then used double-sided tape (sometimes called “carpet tape”) to reattach the fabric to the uncovered foam. The neck can still slide around a bit, so I just stuff a guitar cleaning cloth between the outside of the upper horn and the inside of the case, that keeps the guitar snug and tight and the neck centered.

Il prodotto rispecchia quanto specificato, e ben fatto molto protettivo per lo strumento, la chitarra mancina che contiene si adagia perfettamente al suo interno.

I’ve had two of these, very very good ,especially for Les Paul guitars that need to be protected .
Possibly a bit snugger than most , I’ve had trouble with the toggle on the zip fastener breaking . But otherwise it’s very protective for your guitar and you can feel safe knowing its well protected .

I haven’t toured in decades and retired my heavy flight case long ago, but I wanted something I could use for taking my trusty old Ibanez guitar to jam sessions and the occasional gig. I looked at regular gig bags and while I liked the soft outside, easy carry and the amount of storage they offered, I wanted something with more substance and these cases fit the bill perfectly. While I wouldn’t put these cases through handling by an airline the hard sides are more than adequate for around town. They also provide good neck support and protection for the guitar when not in use, something I don’t think soft sided gig bags do. And there are plenty of pockets and storage for a strap, cables, tuner, battery practice amp, picks and other essential items that I carry with me. I wish I had this when I was actively playing.

I bought this for an Ibanez GA Series electric guitar. This guitar has a slimmer body than standard (telecaster type) electric guitar so unfortunately the body of the case is deeper than the body of the guitar – I put the cloth I use for cleaning my guitar under the body of the guitar to resolve this issue. Length and width it fits well. The main pocket (at the bottom) is wide enough to fit a binder in it, however you won’t be able to fully zipper the pocket if you choose to put one in it. Otherwise the main pocket and smaller ones therein are great for other storage (a pedal, cables, batteries, etc). The upper pocket is perfect for a couple cables and small items.

The material is decent – I expect it to hold up to the extent I plan to put it through (in/out of car) I wouldn’t fly with this case. The zippers worry me slightly, but I just got the case so I can’t comment further.

All in all, this does the job and I would say it’s priced reasonably.

Great case at a great price! I bought this for my girlfriend’s Ibanez FR 320 which has a body shape kinda similar to a telecaster and am seriously considering getting one for myself to replace the semi-rigid padded line 6 case that came with my JTV-89; yes it’s that much better (also note that the semi-rigid description for this case vs. my line 6 case are worlds apart, with this SKB case being made of solid but lightweight and extremely rigid impact resistant foam akin to the inside of a bicycle helmet, while the line 6 case is stuffed with dense and flexible spongy foam padding kinda like anti fatigue floor matting which provides protection against bumps and small drops but doesn’t provide an ounce of structural support because it derives it’s rigidity entirely from the instrument contained within).

The main selling points for me were as follows:

    1. Decreased bulk vs. the cheap ($50) generic rectangular black laminated plywood cases I previously bought for 2 of my other electric guitars. I’d pick this form factor over the rectangular ones any day in a heartbeat. This case looks more professional and feels a lot less cheap too.

    2. Backpack style straps keep your hands available for the rest of your equipment.

    3. Lightweight vs. those cheap rectangular wooden cases I talked about earlier.

    4. Capacity is enough to carry all your guitar accessories, including a single Boss pedal in the inside compartment, and a coiled up 25 foot cable in the outside pocket. I can also fit my music binder in there, which is an added plus.

    5. Lastly and most importantly is the fit. This case was designed with a Stratocaster styled body shape in mind, however it fits Telecasters, and surprisingly the Ibanez FR320 with it’s Ibanez neck and styling as well! That covers a pretty decent range of all solid bodied electric guitars.

Anyways, those are my reasons for thinking this is an awesome case and completely worth the money. I hope this review helped you determine whether this case is compatible with your instrument or not and made your decision to buy this case a lot easier. Rock on!
