This is so fun! I bought it for my engineer friend to do with my 4 year old and they both have a blast. It is great for fun and education and it’s really good quality.

When I was around 9 years old I got hooked on science and specifically electronics and weather instruments. We didn’t have kits like this but instead I built things based on reading books with electronic experiments and buying parts from Radio Shack to build those circuits. I learned how to solder when I was still in elementary school. But solderless kits, like this one, eliminate the fear parents may have of their child burning themselves while experimenting and learning about electronic components and their functions in a circuit.
One of the neat things about this kit is the “Lego” type mounting of the various components on the laminated board (mounting mat) although you will have to hold onto the generator while you turn the crank or it may come loose from the laminated board.
I only tested a few simple things before this review since doing all 100 projects would take a lot of time, but the items I did test met my expectations. The clear molded plastic insert holding the components is very flimsy and not suitable for storing the components. I would recommend using plastic zip-lock sandwich bags to store each component in the product box.
For a beginning kit for a young child, this should spark their potential interest in science and electronics. There are no shock hazards or sharp edges and no soldering required.
It would have been nice to have a schematic diagram for each experiment along with the included pictorial and a small label of the schematic symbol on each component to show the child what the component symbol is in a schematic.
I would recommend this for a child that shows interest in science.

This is such a great set for kids to learn about circuits and electronics. It comes with a large variety of pieces and endless possibilities. I look forward to continuing to help my son learn to use the various pieces! I love also that this is a way for kids to gain skills they will likely need in the future with how electronics and robotics are.

This is a good starter kit for kids with electronics. Having a few Snap Circuits products, I could not help but compare it to them. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. Here are this sets strengths and weaknesses:
Advantages
1) More manual interaction with the connections themselves with freedom of placement using this set’s approach with durable jumpers, improving dexterity.
2) Set offers a large variety of functional builds for the price
3) More types of switches and manual dials included.
Disadvantages
1) Not as effective at introducing circuit diagram symbols and layout (the flip side of Advantage 1)
2) Flexible connectors are more likely to break over time vs acrylic mounted connections.
3) Variety and learning potential of expanded sets
Overall, this set is a good pick if money is tight and your learning goals are limited long term. No question the Snap paradigm builds a better foundation in electronics, with its hands-on circuit diagrams.
