I was on the fence about which projector to get for my home theater, but not the manufacturer. Sony makes great projectors, and the VPL-XW7000ES is the flagship for a reason. I actually had to choose one of the steps down from the brightest settings, because it is just too bright for a dedicated home theater with light control. The images are crisp, dark scenes look great, and it’s just a a no-kidding high-end projector. My only criticism is there are no adjustments for keystone (trapezoid, parallelogram, etc.). I don’t need it for my theater, but I could see it being a problem in some installations. You also need to be comfortable with the fact that it is a laser projector with no bulb to replace. The downside of that is after 20,000 hours, the lasers will be dead and that’s it for the projector. I’m sure it’s possible for Sony to replace them, but my bet is it would cost as much as a new projector. However, even if you watch 4 hours a day, every single day, you’re looking at nearly 14 years of product life. If you can afford this projector, then get it. You won’t be disappointed. I do think that most people would be satisfied with the 6000 series, which has the motorized focusing and an extra 500 lumens above the 5000 series. I imagine that in a light controlled environment, where you only need to focus it one time during installation, the 5000 series would work for you.
