SYLVANIA 9012 SilverStar Ultra Halogen Headlight Bulb

Steps to Replace a Headlight Bulb:
1) Look up headlight replacement in the vehicle’s manual or on YouTube to determine how hard it is to replace the bulbs in your vehicle. Many are hell. So either stop and take to shop and decide to DIY and keep reading. (My 2015 RAM was difficult)
2) Select LED or halogen. Naturally I thought I would switch to LED. But after a lot of reading I discovered that many vehicles that didn’t originally have LEDs do not like them. Many of the reviews talk about incompatibility. Some say they work 98% of the time. Sometimes they have intermittent problems. I’m sorry. If it is hell to replace the bulbs I wasn’t going to switch to LED and risk more problems. I stayed with halogens.
3) What quality of halogen? It appears Syvania, Phillips, and GE are pretty common in Canada. They all sell a standard bulb, a high end, and a bunch in between. Again I thought i would go with the brighter whiter super duper bulb. But remember highway laws limit how bright bulbs can be. So they may get brighter but I don’t think the differences are incredible. See my photo. That compares my standard halogen that came in my RAM in 2015 to this Sylvania. Yes it is brighter and whiter. But BE WARNED. This Syvania is only rated for 250 hours vs their Xtravision bulb rated at 850 hours. I expect 250 hours is close to one year for me. (They warranty it for 1 year) I am sorry but it is such a pain to replace these bulbs in my truck that I decided not to buy these. I ultimately decided on the Xtravision. Unfortunately they were out of stock so ended up with the Silverstar Ulta anyway. And next year at this time when they burn out I will probably be cursing again.

I give only 3 stars due to inadequate life.

these sylvania headlamps are working great so far.. a lot better than the dim ones i had in my truck. Will have to drive for a while to see how well they hold.. but so far so good.

This my first time trying to replace the parts in my vehicle, so I was hesitant in buying these headlights. But I’m definitely glad I did. The lights fit my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk perfectly, and are very bright, waaaaay better than my old OEM ones. Definitely a great upgrade.

Great brand name product at a good price and easy do it yourself installation. Would definitely buy this again when needed.

I purchased these for my 2015 GMC Sierra – one of the original bulbs had burned out after 3 ½ years and 65,000 miles, which is not bad.

These new bulbs provide a very bright white light, an improvement over the factory bulbs. So far I’m very satisfied.

Sylvania has multiple models for replacement headlight bulbs (descriptions from Sylvania’s own website illustrations):

– 9012 Basic Halogen – basic, yellow color
– 9012 XtraVision Halogen – yellow color, farther down-road
– 9012 SilverStar Halogen – white color, more down-road, more clarity
– 9012 SilverStar Ultra – white color, most down-road, more clarity, ‘ultra’ night vision
– 9012 zXe Halogen – much whiter light, similar to the look of HID

I decided to get these SilverStar Ultra bulbs rather than the slightly more expensive and possibly superior zXe bulbs simply because they were available for faster delivery at the time of my order.

If you are unsure which bulb to purchase for your vehicle, then the Sylvania website has an excellent guide that will quickly tell you the correct size bulb you need.

An important note – when handling these bulbs, don’t touch the bulb directly with your fingers, only hold the bulb by the plastic base and use gloves or shop towels to protect the bulb itself from oils on your fingers that will cause hot spots and premature failure of the bulb. If you do touch the bulb, it can be cleaned using rubbing alcohol.

The price here on Amazon is also very reasonable.

Replace the OEM bulbs on my 2017 Cadillac XT5 what are different they made much brighter and the beam distance is much further. Would recommend this product. Very happy with it.
