Mine came with a broken soundpost; it’s now rolling around inside of the violin. I’ve attached a photo.
The bridge snapped in half while I was trying to tune the violin; I’ve glued it together with wood glue for now, but I’ll need another one; which you must get from a music shop.
As for the soundpost: that cannot be fixed at home. It must be taken to a music store or violin luthier to be repaired (I’m sure once I take this into the store and tell them I ordered it from Amazon, they’ll frown upon me, but alas)
The bow is….not good. Two hairs snapped off while I was playing. The rosin is cheap quality but it’s not terrible. The tuner doesn’t work, period. Shoulder rest is decent, chin rest is not too comfortable, and the case I suppose; it’s actually not bad. The case is okay. The front sort of zipper pocket on it can be used to hold sheet music, but it’s not completely flat so the paper you put in there will get wrinkled.
My advice is: Rent a violin from a music store, or spend more money for a better quality one.

Ordered this for my daughter’s 11 year birthday. She was over the moon. Looks beautiful, well made, and it was boxed very carefully. I was worried because it was very humid and hot the day it was delivered, but it was in two boxes and a case, so the violin was in great shape arriving. I am not a musician, so I don’t know anything about violins, but I looked at it very closely and it looks like a quality piece. We can’t wait to set it up and have her use it. I will report back but my first impression so far is excellent. There are instructions and videos to help set up the violin, and it was packaged very carefully. The wood is smooth and lustrous, and it looks like high quality components, this is definitely a musical instrument, not a toy.

It’s been a while since I played violin so I wanted to get back into it. This set came with everything that I would need minus a beginner’s book. Although I still had some from my previous lessons, it would still be nice to have it included.
Violin comes with bridge detached, you need to install this yourself. Theres plenty of youtube videos that illustrate how to do so.
A couple of the pegs were loose but was easily fixable by pressing them more into the violin.
Overall, pretty good set for the price.

Was trying to put the new one through the little hole in the peg…so I grabbed a flashlight to help my me see what I was doing.
Then I noticed the workmanship of the peg box and it got me examining the instrument a little more closely.
I noticed how the nut had been slapped on. The paint job of the fingerboard slightly making its way onto the neck. The little crack on the neck that seemed to have been glued back ever so obviously. The sloppy white paint visible through the f-holes. Purfling rubbing off in some places. Unshaped bridge that causes hitting other strings. Chipped underside of the chin rest that has been described as ebony…..but that chip shows a different color than the exterior paint…..I could go on. Take a look at the pics and decide for yourself.
It came in a good case, cheap cracked rosin, heavy unbalanced bow, tuner, a misleading book that’s a guide on how to set up and extra set of strings.
Customer service/seller was responsive-offered to reimburse $30 and throw in a harp I have no need for. They claim the warranty is lifetime in private messages, but their description shows 45 days….I believe when that time has lapsed, you will be on your own and not even Amazon will rescue you.
Take a look through the pics and decide for yourself. I wish someone had taken such close ups and warned me!!
Not expecting a strad…..but these are signs your beginner violin will not last long.

for the prize it’s not the best violin (as expected) but truly i regret purchasing this item. One of the violins strings were broken when i first reserved it in the mail. Truly recommend you save your money for a better quality violen( even if it’s more expensive it’s SOO worth it). I hope this helps.

Over violin build quality and finish is very good. The violin neck/fingerboard was slightly offset in reference to the f-holes, but that is not really an issue after adjusting the bridge and tensioning the strings. the solid spruce top produces a decent sound, better than most beginner violins. good value.

Baby girl said she wanted to learn violin, so I bought her a starter violin. We struggled getting sound out of it for the longest, until we took it to a music store and they said the rosin that was included in this kit was defective. Instrument works, strings work. Worth the purchase for your average beginner violinist.

Like I mentioned in the other review. My girlfriend and her friends have a late year resolution on learning guitar. And somehow, they want me to play violin. So I can teach them guitar, and in return, I can learn violin from them. Well, not a bad deal, as I love music and am always curious about how to play violin. I am not sure if this is from the same seller but this set also comes with everything one may need. Plus carrying case and tuner. Strings and spare strings are unlike traditional ones, you do not need to know the technique to twist them, just need to hook them on and tune it. The one I bought is acoustic version. Very elegant looking but feels a little light in my hand. Maybe it’s just me. I’m more used to the heavier instruments.
I saw some low star reviews regarding bridge is detached and electronic component not working…
I don’t think any new violin comes with the bridge pre-attached. If you buy in store I’m pretty sure they will set it up for you. But it is a better idea to remove the bridge before transporting or traveling. Setting up the bridge is pretty self-explanatory. Or you can google search “violin”. The picture will give you a perfect idea where to position that wooden piece.
And for the electronic part… although the one I bought is not electric, but if it is the same as the guitar I bought… They packaged it really well and the 9v battery is in plastic wrapping. This ensures the battery is new when you get it and prevents battery leak. So try taking out the battery to remove it’s plastic packaging first.

Out of the box this kinda surprised me. Dimensions were spot on and everything seemed to fit pretty well. Even the string grooves were pretty close to where they need to be. The bridge was fitted “ok” and looked like it could support full string tension without marring the top plate. I know better tho so decided to tune it 4 half steps down to let it settle for a couple days before taking string height measurements. I was about right for steel strings with 4.5-5mm on the G string, 3-3.5mm on the E string. Overall sound while detuned was really good – a touch of growl on the low end but not raspy and mellow highs without the dreaded piercing shrill on the E string. Even the fingerboard had a nice scoop with no obvious dings or waves.
The soundpost ends were well fitted but the length was a touch long causing the Treble side F-hole to push up and I could see the pressure spot of the sound in the reflection of the finish. Most beginners would appreciate the overly snug fit of the sound post since it means it will stay in place during shipping and string changes. I ended up cutting 1.5mm off the length to get the F-hole to lay flat (matching the bass side). The top plate still has memory of the old post so the soundpost is super loose with no string tension and the slightest bump will make it fall out of place. Not a big deal for me since I recheck soundpost position during restringing.
I did the usual setup tweaks for pegs, string groves, tailpiece position, fingerboard shaping/smoothing, nut height and made a new bridge since I wanted to use synthetic strings (5.5mm G, 3mm E). The original steel strings survived all the horrors of the setup process and still sounded pretty good after all that. I’m running the new formula Tonica’s on it now and very happy with everything. I like the project aspect of things but I’m pretty sure I could’ve tunned it up right out of the box and had a decent beginner instrument.

I love the set, and how generous they are with the additional accessories that they include. But the problem that I have is that I cannot get the bow to take and hold rosin. I’ve applied and applied the rosin, and maybe I can get some sound for a short period, but then it goes back to voiceless. I think the bow strings must be very poor quality. Also, the violin doesn’t hold a tune, but I’m told that’s normal with a new instrument/strings. It does seem to be holding tune longer now that I’ve used it more, than when it was first set up.
Overall, it’s a very nice kit for a beginner, at a great price; but unfortunately you do get what you pay for in regards to quality. I will at least be replacing the bow, if not the whole instrument soon.
