Clifford E. Hatfield –
This mouthpiece is generally best used by an experienced trumpeter with a GOOD embrachure. OK, it works for starting players too, but you have to realize that the deep cup makes the high notes harder to reach unless you have a very strong embrachure. It DOES make the lower tones better and more controlable. It creates a rich, dark tone that is very pleasant to hear. Shallow cup mouthpieces (like a 7C, for example) make the high notes easier, and the tone more bright. If you like the extra control and darker tone, the stronger embrachure needed for the high notes will come in time. If you have a trumpet teacher or band director, you have access to some great advice, but the bottom line here is: No one can decide which mouthpiece is best for you. Such a decision requires careful thought and a little trial and error. Some of us even use more than one mouthpiece. When I see a sheet of music, I like to give it a quick scan. If there are lots of high notes, I’ll use my 7C mouthpiece. If the notes are in the trumpet’s natural register, I’ll grab the 5A and enjoy the great tone and better control in that range. Check with your band director or trumpet teacher on this. Some contend that changing mouthpieces like that is not good. What is certain is the quality and comfort of a Bach mouthpiece. They are entirely worth what you pay for them. If you get the chance to look at other mouthpiece brands, you’ll notice that most try to copy the Bach. Why do you think that is?

loved this mouthpiece, great for high notes

Arrived on time, and is the brand and model I wanted. It may just be entirely in my head, but the gold rim is so far more responsive, brighter, and more brilliant than it’s normal counterparts, allowing for more sizzle in the upper registers with the deeper mouthpiece cup. I’m using it on both my Bach 37 mL Strad and my large bore Bel Canto. Doc would approve.

Picked up the Trumpet more than 60 years ago. Bach was a premier product then, and still is today.

A very interesting sound. I really like it.

My son has been using a 7C mouthpiece; his professor suggested the change to 3C. I found the Bach Standard Series Trumpet Mouthpiece 2-3/4C in Amazon. This one has a little bigger rim which I believed was better for him. He is delighted with the sound and the pitch of this mouthpiece. He also tells me that is easier to reach higher notes and he doesn’t get as tired when practicing as he did with the other mouthpiece. It was a good choice for him.
