Clayton Borton –
Was a pain to install because it’s not easy finding schematics online to control everything. I actually opened the box and put off installing for a few months because of this. The guide in the box is only helpful if you know exactly what you’re doing and what wires you need to go after and whether those wires are + or – and beings it’s made to be universal I found there’s an absurd amount of wired I didn’t actually need. I used 6 out of the 24 pin harness.
But it is a nice unit I tried starting my truck over half a mile away (in sight) and I saw it light up and start. Was impressed. I know it says to have dealer installed but if you have really done homework on your vehicles wiring harness and know a little about wiring you’ll be fine.

dont expect to install yourself. had it installed by professional. works great when it works and is really cool to have. just have some intermittent issues with remote starting system.

Very sophisticated system. Selling dealer was very prompt shipping, good price. Now, with that being said, I was not happy at all with the documentation to install the remote start portion of the system. The low amp module inputs / outputs are crystal clear in the documentation, but the remote start connections are intentionally vague and pretty much useless. I had to use commando alarm systems to obtain more detailed information to install the viper system. THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE INSTALLING THE REMOTE START PORTION ON THE 5806V. WIRES RED / WHITE, PINK / WHITE, AND SOLID RED, 3 WIRES ON THE 10 PIN WIRE, HEAVY GAUGE, REQUIRE BATTERY VOLTAGE AT ALL TIMES. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DECIPHER AND INSTALL YOUR SYSTEM FROM THAT POINT FOR REMOTE START. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAKE THE SYSTEM TO AN INSTALLER, ESPECIALLY FOR NOVICE ELECTRICAL TECHS. Also, I had several circuits that require relays to flip the ground to positive for module outputs. This will vary depending on what you’re driving. Be prepared for a project if you intend to fully utilize the system. Internet information very limited to assist with install issues.

For a DIY installer (but my third alarm/remote start), be warned this is not for the faint of heart!! The process of installing is not unlike any other remote start/alarm combo…ignition wire 1, 2, accessory, ground, siren in engine bay…. however where this system will leave you in the dark is a detailed description of exactly what all the pins and wires DO. It’s only half the battle to understand what wires are what in your vehicle, you also need to understand the system and what connections are required to operate properly. This is where a system like this, primarily marketed towards dealers, will leave you holding the bag. A quick start install guide is included, but basically only gives a name for each wire, and how to program keyfobs and features. Online forums are your friend, and be prepared to spend AT LEAST an entire day mapping wires to you vehicle and application.
All in all, very reliable, quality product. Happy with range, and vast amount of install versatility it provides. But if you’re simply looking to add a system for a friend or family member who doesn’t care about brand or features, save yourself some headache and go with a more consumer oriented brand (crime stopper, etc)
7/7/2015 UPDATE:
System has been working great – I put my first set of batteries in a month ago, so 6 months worth of life from the factory batteries – note bad. Once they start going the alarm becomes very annoying – it didn’t actually die, I just got tired of hearing the low-battery warning!
Range is phenomenal – in fact I just stopped what I was doing to comment on this. I’m on the 14th floor of a library – my truck is a good 15 walk from the library. Cloudy day (which does help), and NOT line-of-site, but received confirmation lock on my first keypress holding it up to the nearest window. Awesome!

I made a terrible decision buying this. I sunk $500+ on the kit plus installation. My local car audio/alarm shop did an excellent job installing – the problem lies in the product itself.
Where do I begin?
The first fob quit responding just a couple months into using it. I then switched to the secondary fob which worked decently for a few more months, but then stopped triggering lock/unlock/remote start as quickly as you would expect it to. Not to mention it will drain the fob batteries every 3 months.
Now the unlock button is completely broken and will not unlock at all. I have to manually unlock the door which sets off the alarm (silently, might I add, because the audible speaker does not sound the alarm anymore). Then when I get in my truck it holds me hostage until I get the correct number of presses on the receiver that sticks to the windshield. I still have no clue how many button presses it is, I just have to keep pushing the button and moving the key from ACC to ON until it finally starts the truck. What a waste. It was nice having remote start and a sensitive alarm while it lasted. I’m headed back to the OEM Toyota fob with my head down and a hole in my pocket. Seriously, save your money.
